Any known problems with Fabia vrs standard stereo?

Featured Replies

The standard stereo in my 06 Fabia vrs may be playing up randomly. I am still in the assessment stage at the moment just in case it's my CD's that are dodgy. It seems to skip lately (originals and my own complilations) and has trouble reading one of my CD's that I have made myself, again this is recent.

Are there any known issues with these?

Mine has a tendancy to skip now and again but could be my discs are scratched but one of albums in the car that I have not listened to in ages got swallowed by the cd player!

Just got a cleaning cd, as mine is totally duff....will let you know if it works. I don't rate the radio much - I have had better oem radios in basic Corsas.

I love how the plain looks of Symphony make people automatically assume it's rubbish! It's actually pretty good - Grundig have as good a pedigree as Sony or Kenwood - it just doesn't say 'hello' to you when you switch it on or have a full-colour display! Sure, the dealer price is inflated (£220 IIRC), but to replace it with something you picked up from Halfords for £89.99 as seems to happen quite often is lunacy!

Anyway, back OT, very rarely do the CDs in my or SWMBO's Symphonies skip (although I use my changer most of the time), however every now and again a disc will get stuck. It could just be that the laser's dirty, as PHILE suggests...

True, but when the volume's at 10 and you turn it up by two clicks I bet their volume increases 10 - 11 -12 and doesn't increase 10 - 6 - 15

:P

Touché - although a bit of time spent practicing your kn0b twiddling technique pays dividends in this area, I've found! ;):D

Thankfully I'd finished my coffee before reading the above

OT: I've never yet had a CD get stuck inside the player although the random volume generator does do my head in as well as the rattling n/s speaker

Apart from the inability for the volume to count properly my only gripe is that in slow moving traffic if you hold the clutch down at just the right place, the car makes the volume louder and louder and louder and louder. Sometimes I make a game of it when I'm bored in traffic jams to pass the time. Actually then, it's pretty good. Scratch that complaint.

Its not a Grundig... its made by technisat...

i changed mine after it was skipping on some cds and some cds werent being recognised even after using a cleaner cd.... besides i wanted something with MP3/usb slot so i bought the stereo i have now

I replaced my standard Symphony after it swallowed a CD for a fortnight, and the ten-year-old Pioneer in it's place is better. The only car I've had with a pretty good OE stereo was my A3, though the VW Gamma in our Lupo is ok-ish.

Mine swallowed a CD and froze up two days after getting the car. Took it to the dealer who hit it with a hammer (or something like that).

Apart from that, seems to skip quite easily, but I do drive like a loon.

CD cleaner worked as far as playing proper CDs are concerned. My Verbatim CD-Rs have trouble being read (TOC) to determine the number tracks, and therefore will not play. You can eject the CDR and rotate it a bit and shove it back in, sometimes this works. I hate to use bought CDs eg HMV in a player that grabs to load - it does mark them. Also the CD should be clean without finger prints - baby shampoo/warm water rinse/ and a microcloth dry works well. Hold CDs at the egde! Getting anal here.:)

I will try some other makes of CD-R to see if helps. There is a writing program I remember that writes longer information pits on the CD which is supposed to help....the cleaner CD I used was a Fellows dry brush type, from WHS or Staples etc. A tiny wetting of clean water off a cotton bud (not finger) placed on the nearest brush to the centre of the cleaning disc can help if the lens has misted at some point, and whos VRS hasn't!

Its not a Grundig... its made by technisat...

Maybe it's only the Octy flavour of Symphony that's made by Grundig unless they have more than one supplier...???

Well, well, well. Had mine out today to try and get it sitting flush after installing my Elegance tray, and sure as eggs is eggs, it says 'Made by Technisat'. To be fair, they also make the VW Gamma, which gets a 'pretty good' above...

Im sorry, but i think they should all be thrown out at as higher speed as legally possible. There poo, and a £90 sony one would be 10x better. Volume does as it wishes, and dosnt play cd`s so what use is it? lol

Well the only thing mine's missing is a jack socket. Multi-band radio that's good enough for a car, cassette player in the head, and 6 disc stacker that works unless it's trying to change magazine freebies right on a bump. Ok, I can't run it at "heard in the next county" levels, but I'm not sure that's actually a bad thing.

My only issue is the stupid volume. Other than that I think its fine. Has pre-outs, remote cable, cd-changer ports.

I put one of these in:

kept it for a week, then pulled it out. Didn't like the red light.

i have one of these

the display can be changed to any colour u want (even purple) thogh i have mine set as green..... the usb is connected to a lead into a socket in the back and i have the lead come through a hole i had drilled in in the plastic box bit below my stereo

Apart from the erratic volume the only other issue i have had is it's made a loud "crack" a couple of times and rebooted itself, weird.
