Engine chip for a 105bhp 4x4

Featured Replies

I've no experience of the DPT module but have had two tuning boxes, two chip replacements and 2 custom (the best) re-maps on previous cars.

I had an A4 110bhp 1.9 TDi Quattro 'tuning boxed' to 135bhp and a 2.5 A4 150 Tdi Quattro up to 180bhp. The one I had on the first A4 had two screws so that you could tweak the fueling once it had been fitted. This kept any black smoke to a minimum, and the car was used on track days etc with no problems !

The tuning box on my second A4 was technically more sophisticated, but produced a lot more black smoke through over-fuelling at low revs from getaway. Again no problems otherwise in 50k of running.

The benefit of tuning boxes is obviously that you can unplug them as and when. If you can afford a customised remap and have no warranty concerns, I would go for that option though.

The only Skoda I've had remapped was an Octavia 4x4 mk1 1.8T petrol estate. I did a lot of research at the time and was prepared to spend for the best, and despite the name, Jabbasport's work was absolutely superb.

The car was rolling-roaded at 220bhp which was a fairly conservative remap (car produced about 165bhp standard as opposed to the quoted 150bhp).

The benefits were brilliant driveability and the knowledge that the car was tuned within tolerances for the particular engine over 3 hours.

If you can find someone as good, you won't regret it.:)

chipped uk do a remap. You get a box with 3 maps, 1 std, the other 2 you choose, either mpg, road, track. You plug the box in and it uploads data to the ecu.

Have a dig around on line if interested as they have great group buys every now and then.

Thanks for the info - looks like back to surfing!!!

What about superchips are they any good and are they detectable once done

Check out what Quentin WIllson has to day about the DPT chip. he featured in on a TV show he did called Priced off our Roads for ITV. He now has 2 units on his vehicles and is getting some good results.

A decent testimonial i would say.

The site also has some other good feedbacks including the motoring journalist Iain Robertson who has one on his VRS 170bhp with some great results. The site shows a copy of a newspaper article hi wrote.
