Getting to the air con evaporator!

Featured Replies

Well, just been in talks with my dealer about replacing the sensor on the evaporator to get my air con working again and they tell me it's 3 hours labour (166 quid + VAT) to do it as it's a dash out job. Well, as I'm going to be taking the lower half of the dash out anyway to replace with my grey items (thanks Jason  ) I wondered if anyone could tell me where the evaporator sits and if I'll be able to get to it with the bottom half of the dash removed?

Thanks, Chris

If it's anything like the Octy, I think you'll find it behind the glovebox, but up behind the dash there. Not that easy to get to unless you remove the top half of the dashboard too, I suspect...

Hi Chris

Do you know the part number of the sensor? Is it the thrust sensor?

Do you have to evacuate the system to change it?

Thanks

Doug

Hi Dougal, part number is on my desk at work  Part is "Evaporator vent temp sensor" and I'm not sure if the system needs evacuating - I don't think so as the garage didn't mention it, but I stand to be corrected ;)

And thanks Rob - let's hope the sensor is at the bottom of the evaporator then ;)

Yeah was quoted 44 quid from the dealer so sounds about right but I haven't bought it yet to know how many pins it has ... :) Got any links to taking the Golf dash apart on the TDI forum - I guess I know what I'll be up to this weekend if I'm not moving house ;)

Chris

the sensor sits on top of air box right hand side behind dash panel and yes its a dash out job ive tried all ways to replace without dash out and it cant be done.
