For anyone that can't get hold of Aquapel this kit from Lidl is on offer and is pretty good for the money. Certainly cheaper than importing Aquapel in small amounts and much easier than organising a GB:

Just out of interest has anyone tried aquapel or rain X or any of these things on their shower cubicles?

Just wondering if they'll keep the glass sparkling for longer.

Still not used mine for the last GB.

I've now found a UK supplier for Aquapel - PPG Aquapel Rain Repellent Glass Treatment [AQU101] - £5.00 : Motorsport Engineering Ltd - Quality Motorsport Products and Services

£5.00 plus a delivery charge (estimated) of £2.12 for up to 4 ampoules.

I've not tried them yet, but at those prices it doesn't seem to make a GB worth bothering with in the future.

Depending on the amounts they buy in you should be able to get a GB discount from that supplier, but you are IMHO correct, no point doing another US GB.

Worth noting that the stuff lidl sells includes all the cloths and would be much cheaper for something like shower screens. I'm also told by a few people that it seems to work as well as aquapel as it's the same as somebody elses nano tech treatment.

Apparently this stuff is very good for keeping the scale from settling. I'd guess aquapel is similarly good but don't think RainX would last any time.

Now naptha is also the main constituant of common or garden lighter fuel, the stuff you put in a Zippo. Would this be an extremely cheap alternative?

I use it on the conservatory windows, my last batch of 4 saw 3 of them head that way It has the Pilkington self cleaning glass on it, but with the windows aquapelled the rain just streams off the glass.

I also use it on my Shoei visor, inside and out and it works well enough

I wouldn't think so - Naptha is a fairly common industrial solvent, and I expect that it just the carrying solvent medium for the ingredients.

It would be a bit like spraying your car with neat thinners and wondering why the colour stayed the same

I think if you ordered a few hundred you might get them for somewhere in the region of £3.50-£4 each plus postage. At that point the GB isn't really worth it.

Thats what I was thinking - I only ran a small GB on the first lot of these, and even that took some effort. Jason and cheeze must have put a lot of time in to do the ones they ran.

I wouldn't expect anyone to go to all that trouble to save me what could only be a couple of quid at most.

Problem is paul, that lot will be importing them from PPG and even the best import price for large amounts is $3-4 each, plus tax and customs and postage.

Then you have to pay to post them out to you, cover the packaging and cover any that break in transit.

The £5 an item isn't a bad price and if you compare the price there to the delivered price for a GB then you might save £2 on buying 4, which isn't worth the extra effort of all importing large amounts from the US.

It's worth asking the guy, I just don't see much chance of getting the savings from before. When the GB's took place buying it over here was £7 upwards each.

Are you buying in boxes of 24 or did you get a bulk order of a couple of hundred in?

Assuming the import duty and VAT on them and the lovely exchange rate I also can't seem them getting much cheaper, although at £5 each plus postage then there is a profit margin in there. (Not saying there shouldn't be, it's a shop selling something so has to make money)

Did you see the comment in brackets on my previous post where i said i expected there to be a profit as you were a shop? It wasn't a criticism, it was a comment in support of a fair profit.

Also FWIW *everyone* has to pay VAT but if your company is VAT registered you can claim it back in certain circumstances unlike an individual.

I can currently buy 24 at $96 shipped to the UK from a US online retail outlet, so multiply that by 6 and divide by 144 gives $4 each. Add customs charges and VAT (assumed 20% total) and you're looking about $4.80 each plus UK postage.

That's about £2.53 each plus postage if you assume today's exchange rate which is pretty low on the current averages.

If you take 2 then postage is about £2.50 recorded first class so:

£2.53 * 2 + £2.50 = £8.20 for 2 including the packaging.

So that is £4.10 each if you buy 2 and £3.50 each if you buy 4 in one go.

That is cheaper than I could get it for the GB at the time as it appears the retailer now includes UK postage in the costs.

So Paul, looks like it actually is a fair bit cheaper to run a GB if people buy 2 or 4, so my apologies there.

If anyone wants the companies details to run another GB let me know and I'll pass them on.

Actually, you only PAY VAT if you are VAT registered. As they are coming in from the USA, we cannot claim back any tax and have to pay 17.5% to the tax office on the sale price...

We could probably do a deal on a group buy for the briskodians dependant on quantities.

An individual pays VAT all the time and packages coming in from the US will incur this charge on passing through UK customs.

AFAIK being VAT registered means you can claim it back on the goods you buy and then pay /charge it when you sell it on or provide a service.

Regarding the quantities, you can see that even if somebody on here buys a single box of 24, then splits it 6 ways with mates that's a pretty good price.
