egr blanking (yes again!!)

Featured Replies

sorry to bring this up again:thumbdwn: but i've checked most of the old posts and can't find the answer!!!

i've finally bought a fab vrs and love it, but want to sort a few things out that'll help it last a little longer;-

1- egr

2-crankcase breather

3- rear antirollbar.

Does fitting the EGR blanking system from Allard put the EML. light on, on a asz engine'd fab?? if so how do ya get around it, just turn it down??

Thanks in advance

chris:)

yes the allard pipe puts the eml on,the only way to turn it off is to map it out,it can't be turned off with vagcom,s a good excuse for a re map then:thumbup:

Redundant quote deleted.

Tell what I did- much cheaper than allard race pipe

after reading a few threads on SCN, I removed the Black vaccum pipe going into the "UFO" on top of the EGR - I then plugged this tightly with a golf tee and cabled tied it tight, and used a brake bleeder groomit to cover the hole on the sacuer.

My EGR now no longer turns on keeping my inlet manifold clean - and I have had no CEL light after 600 miles.

Total cost about 87p

About the golf tee thing and the EGR.

Im i right in saying the vacum pipe sucks, and that opens the exhaust to the inlet?

Or does the tube pressurise to do this?

Either way, could you not just just get a hose clamp or somthing and just pinch up the tube?

With the golf tee, do you notice any over run when turnning off?

Dave

How do you mean overun?

Please explain

Yes you could use a hose clamp, thats what a couple of people have done

Over run... humm. Like you turn your ignition off, and instead of the engine dying asap, it will run for a second or two.

The EGR from my understanding also helps the engine shut down by feeding it fumes or somthing.

Did you need to disconnect the negative battery-lead to do this incredibly cheap and effective mod?

I didnt - and nobody on SCN did this either I dont think.

And no, I havnt experienced any overrun

Im also amazed that I have had no CEL either as its an 04 plate, and 99% of cars after 03 seem to throw cel's after 200 or so miles

The beauty of this is that the anti shudder valve is retained

cheers for that! i may try your method, as you say a damn site cheeper.

i know a couple of garages with vagcom i think so i'll get them to turn it off if it don't work!

what else is on that unit?? some kind of butterfly valve used for throttle control???
