Anyone good with alarms?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

When I bought my 03 Octavia it came with one alarm remote and a red touchkey. I have been told that it is a Scorpion Alarm, they went bust and I have little to no hope of therefore obtaining a replacement other than ebay....Then the little loop for the keyring broke.

Well, although this was not the case at the time, there are a few of the remotes on ebay now. Also, oddly, this morning I discovered a small ledge under the steering wheel which had a second remote and a black touch key on it!

The second remote does not work (and has a broken loop also), even after changing the battery, (ie no led flashes or anything), and I have not tried the touch key, but I have some questions.(keep in mind I do not even now the model of the alarm, but am trying to attach a picture of the remote - I have also spent hours googling to little avail)

1. If I have one working remote, can I use this and/or the touchkey (red or black) to reprogram one purchased from ebay? if so, any advice as to how would be much appreciated.

2. is it a fixed code or rolling code system?

Any hints or help would be very gratefully recieved, - replacing the alarm is not really an option at the moment, and as it is fitted, I would like to use it.

Many thanks

C.

Update:

Well, the black touchkey works (anyone know what the difference is between the black and red touch keys?)

And as if by magic, after a bit of a drive and pushing some buttons, the second remote works :) (LED is dead tho)

Both have broken straps where they attach to keyrings so I will try and pick up some spare fobs off ebay, but would still like to know how to reprogramme the ebay spares if possible?

OK - final update for anyone who would otherwise spend hours and hours searching like I did.

By deduction I worked out I have the Scorpion 1015T alarm (as I have two remotes, red and black touchkeys, and no PIN or anything).

I have managed to find a set of instructions, but this was remarkably difficult and time consuming. I have been able to source a couple of remotes from ebay although they only appear sporadically. The instructions give guidance on how to reprogramme remotes, the only thing is that you must do all exisiting remotes and touchkeys at the same time. (no great problem) - also, my LED does not go green as per the instruction book, but hey it worked anyway.

I am (I hope) attaching a copy of the instructions, as I said, these were a right pain to get hold of, so hopefully someone else may find them useful.

I will amend the topic of the thread to aid future searches.

Would it not have been much easier just to fit a new low end cat1 alarm to your car as this would be better than the one you have in terms of function and come with remotes etc.

THe time you have spent on this must total more than £100

Depends on how you value your time really? I have not lost any actual earning time by researching this all, and yes I have paid say twenty quid for a couple of remotes, but if the alarm was non functioning and I was faced with paying £100 then I would not have opted for a new alarm, I would have just left it.

At the end of the day, I guess I did this because I wanted to use the alarm as opposed to NEEDing it. Hence I could not justify a new one.

And I guess I just like accumulating small bits of potentially useless knowledge.

Incidentally, what extra benefits would a new low end alarm give me?

CAT1 and fitting certificate includes an immobiliser which on older cars without these fitted as standard can net you a not insignificant insurance discount.

Saying that even a CAT2 immobiliser fitted by a pro can get a discount on an old car.

Ah OK. I understand that the car comes with an immobilizer and the alarm is merely a cat2-1 upgrade.

The insurance were only interested in the immobilizer and didn't give two hoots about the alarm. But as I said, I wanted it.....
