black oil after 2 weeks

Featured Replies

on my furby vrs(only done 19500 miles so far), was told the oil i was changed the day before i bought it. Not used to driving diesels I dont know how dirty they get, but thought it was very weird the oil had turned black after just a week of driving and about 300 miles.

is that normal?

should i be changing the oil every 3 months? i used to do that on my old car which ran on petrol.

Usually go black as soon as you turn the key.

Every 10k for the oil is fine (assume you are using the correct oil). Colour isn't and indication of the state of the oil.

Absolutely.

In point of fact, I'd be more worried if the oil didn't go black quickly, because that would mean it wasn't disolving and/or suspending combustion product properly.

:iagree:

My old mans Audi 1.9 Tdi is the same. Drop the oil, fill her up checking dipstick and the oil is loverly. Start her up, check level again and it looks like it needs dropping again. You could always put an engine flush additive in before the oil change which will clean the engine a bit more keeping new oil fresher - But not for long. As already said, dirty oil is not a sign that the oil is past it. Don't worry.
