Mileage counter stopped

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Two weeks ago i noticed my mileage counter has stopped. The speedo is still working. :D

It worked on monday for 9 miles then stopped again ! considering im driving 40 miles a day this is very convienient, but is it legal ? --- My main concern is that the MOT is due soon.

any ideas ?

Dunno about your country's legal requirments but here in Malta in our VRT test {very similar to the uk's MOT test } a non working odo and milometer is a failure.Thing is there are no parts for them, you have to buy a complete speedo head.

Perfectly legal and not a problem in the UK. The only problem really is calculating MPG and determining service requirements based on mileage. I had the same problem and replaced with a lower mileage instrument panel and MOT tester didn't bat an eyelid at the new reading (lower than previous MOT) and just entered it on the system.

Easy fix = replace the entire instrument panel for a known good one. Or you could attempt to replace just the speedo head Skoda Felicia Speedo Head Brand New MPH RHD - £29.99 : Skoda Parts, Jorily, The Skoda Parts Shop - Probably the UKs largest independent skoda parts supplier

It is, however, illegal to misrepresent the mileage of a vehicle when you sell it.

Sorry to reignite such an old topic but i've got the same issue and didn't think it was worth making a new topic,

Speedo works but the mileage (odometer) counter is now hardly moving, did 20 ish miles and it added 3, rather than replacing the dash, is there something apparent if i strip it down that would be broken? or could be repaired, the cars hardly worth anything and i don't really want to spend money on stuff that's not of a safety aspect, it would just be nice for it to work properly.

The culprit is a small plastic sprocket that shifted slightly. See below.

so it basically just needs pushing back in?

so it basically just needs pushing back in?

Yes.

One very important thing before taking out the speedo needle that nobody mentioned on this forum:

mark the needle position when at 40mph as shown in the photos below. You'll have to insert it back in the exact position after repair to avoid recalibration using a GPS receiver..

Cheers guys. Another thing to fix to add to the list lol

Better look at my fun's one to see if this is the same fault on that one...
