alloy wheels

Featured Replies

hi there...was just wondering when my tyres need replacing, rather than fit new ones to the present 16inch alloys i have now...i quite like the idea of elegance style alloys but in 18inch with lower profile tyres...are there any issues with a straight purchase of these alloys and tyres supplied ? or do i need any kits for spacers and what have you? any help on this would be much appreciated..regards ..andy

There isn't anything extra you need to do. Thing I would recommend is tracking and wheel alignment to make sure they're 'sitting' comfortably. Below is the picture of my sup with 18" VW GTI alloys (not many people like them, but I'm happy :-)

You won't have any problems fitting most size wheels as the Superb is as stock on 'stilts'......

Just make sure you buy the same PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter), which in the Superb's case is 5 x 112 and also aim for an ET around 35........

PCD, or Pitch Circle Diameter as discussed, is the measurement of the diameter of an imaginary circle drawn by joining the centre points of the wheel nuts together. The first number (Superb = 5) donates the number of studs or wheel nuts, and the second (Superb = 112) is that diameter in millimetres.

The offset is a little more complicated to explain. Basically it's the measurement of how much the outer edge of the rim sticks out.

Car Bibles: The Wheel & Tyre Bible is an excellent informative site which tells you everything you need to know and a whole load of stuff you don't for good measure

Incidentially, for those of us who already know what offset/PCD is - don't ignore that link. On page 2 there's a really really really useful calculator which will assist you in calculating the correct size tyres if you change your wheels.

Hope that helps :)

Guys above beat me too it but both responses are spot on............
