vRS engine terminally damaged

Featured Replies

A warning to everyone to make sure that when you have your cambelt changed get the Hydraulic Damper changed as well.

Mine has failed and screwed my engine completely.

Ive sourced another engine, rang up etc.

They asked me what the part number on my throttle body was as there are a few variations and i need the one i have on my original car and engine.

But my mechanic has said i need to have the one that comes with the new engine!

So im asking here if anyone knows anything about it?

And could explain further.

Cheers

Adam

Anyone?

Ta

Is it the engine type you need.

Octavia vrs is AUQ.

I know the engine type thanks.

What the seller of the engine wants to know is which throttle body i need.

My mechanic has said i need the throttle body from the donor vehichle, but the garage im buying the engine from are saying that i need the same as the one that is originally on the car.

As far as the mechanic is concerned the throttle body on the original engine is fine but is saying i need the one from the donor vehicle as it is matched up to the donor engine.

But they garage are saying they can supply a throttle body(not necassiarly the one from the engine).

Its all very confusing and noone seems to know what is the right option!

Cant you use your old throttle body

Cant you use your old throttle body

Exactly what i was thinking!

But i know nothing about car mechanicals etc.

My mechanic says i need the one from the donor car because its already matched up to that engine.

That sound like borrax to me, although I'm no techie, surely fit it a re-align it and it will work.

I will check ETKA tonight if you want?

Should tell us if there is any different throttle bodies available.

It does sound strange to me, would have thought AUQ throttle bodies should be the same. Maybe hes thinking a high mileage throttle body may not run as well with a low mileage engine.

Hmm

I'm pretty sure your old TB will work.

I think this "you need the original throttle body" stuff is borrocks. The only reason you might need it is if the immobiliser is in the TB!

Thanks for your replies.

Basically the throttle body on my car now is coded to my ecu.

If it is replaced with another that will need to be coded to the car.

The original one is in good working order and is ok to reuse on the new engine.

Glad i didnt opt to buy another throttle body as it would have been a waste of money!

I have never heard of a throttle body being coded.

Does he mean it needs to be alined?

Coded individually to the car he said.

So if you get a 2nd hand one from another car it shouldnt work.

He said it is "secretly" coded to the ecu so they cant be easily swapped.

That was from a specialist breaker.Dont know whether its the truth or not!

Horse dung.

I have changed many thottle bodies and nvever coded one to anything. I also have a spare one in my toolbox that I use for diagnosis and pop that on all sorts of 1.8Ts.

God knows, all im doing is keeping the original throttle body.

Nowt up with it so im told and im not forking out ££££'s to find out i dont need one.

My english it's pretty good but I don't understand all the technical words and I'm pretty worried about the Hydraulic Damper. I want to know what part of the car is this hydraulic damper so I can change it... I looked over in dictionaries but I couldn't find the exact match

Thank you

Try cambelt automatic tensioner.

Secretly coded :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Are you sure he's not on about the immobilser and ignition etc???

It sounds like you need to find another mechanic ;)

:+1: with both; I reckon it's the ignition immobilser, and would therefore be looking for another mechanic!

It was the specialist breakers yard who said that not the mechanic!

Ah, not clear, but the statement's still nonsense. That said he was potentially losing money by making it.

Same Mechanic that changed the cambelt and didn't use the whole kit including the damper?

Think that says enough about his knowledge on the subject.

hi the throttle body is coded in a way but is not a imob it will still run just not to full potential as long as u have the same part number u can reset the basic settings on it with a vag com or 5052/5051 vw computer your origanal one will work on new engine if u have the basic settings reset hope this helps i used to be vw tec

as for timing belt changes it is recomended in all timing belt books ect to replace tentionors ect to prevent them failing
