MK 2 Octy rear light clusters

Featured Replies

Whilst working tonight following 54 through to 08 reg MK2 Octy,s around i noticed that on the rear light clusters when they are illuminated in what i call a "C" looking shape where the brake lights are at the top of the C shape some are dim and light up bright when braking and some are bright and when braking the light is not so visable. Is this a VAGCOM function that you enable/disable? its seems that any reg has this layout of one or the other.

I hope you know what i mean by this:rofl: just curious.

The top bulb is the stop/tail and the lower bulb is a tail light only. If the top bulb fails then the bottom bulb on that side becomes the stop/tail light until you replace the bulb. It looks weird, with uneven lights but at least you still have a stop lamp on both sides. The lights that you can see that illuminate the outside of the C are not normal bulbs, but simple push in small 5w jobbies that are just infill and are not even part of the main bulb holder.

I love the look of the Octy's tail lights, they are so distinctive that you can spot a MkII vRS from a mile away (the 'C' shape in conjunction with the reflective strips on the bumper). I mentioned this to a Police Officer at who was proudly showing off his unmarked Octavia vRS who was horrified to learn that he may as well have full police livery at night as he is just as easy to spot! :D

Ahh i see.I thought i read somewhere that they have an intelligent light system.

Agree with you that the rear light units look good and can be spotted from a distance.
