Scraped plastic

Featured Replies

A (former) friend of mine managed to scrape the plastic of my car's glove compartment last night. I have been left with an unsightly and visible mark about an inch and a half long.

Is there any way to recondition damaged plastics, or am I going to have to replace the compartment door? If the latter, is the job something I can do myself, and does anyone know the part number/cost?

The glove box unscrews in about 30 seconds.

Can't help with the part number , but there isn't any way of removing a scrape completely

Actually, there is a way to remove these scratches.

What happens is a smart repair technician coats an undamaged part of your dash with a latex resin, when this has dried it can be used as a texture mould. Then the damaged area can be cut back and then filled and then imprinted with texture using the mould. Then it is airbrushed in with special paints made to match dashboard colours. Once done it is pretty much invisible and from memory it a little bit cheaper than the

I got in touch with SkoSpares. They were very helpful, but sadly didn't have the part I wanted, and reckond it would be cheaper for me to get it directly from a dealer. Should be

I've got one of those scratches and a smaller one on the passenger door, very annoying. All part of buying a Skoda fleet car in my instance I guess.

Tried a scrappy?

Why not stick sonething over it and call it optional trim - maybe a bit of wood veneer or a radio 1 (2) sticker or how about a Skoda badge?

Thanks all for the suggestions, but I think the only practical way to do this is to replace the compartment door with a new one (I think the black plastic one is vRS specific). Anyway, the numpty who scraped it has offered to give me the cash so I think I'll just get a new one.
