Summer Heat is driving me mad!

Featured Replies

Have a 2002 RS.

I had a new engine in January this year. I have only done 5 1/2 K since the engine. I cannot get the management light to go out what so ever.

The problem I have is there is massive amounts of heat coming from under the dash on my feet. It is roughly 23 degrees today with heat coming out under the dash?

I can put the climate thingy on - but uses loads of fuel and takes alot of power out of the engine. I don't want to look like a spanner - stalling it all the time.

Does anyone else have this heat problem? It has only been sine the new engine went in.

HELP!

Reap what you sow?

Summer heat ???

Have you got the heater on.

Heaters are off. I know because they say "off" I can just about do three letter and 1 syllable words now.

Ah but how do you know if it's really off when there is nothing on the screen to say so........cos it's off. Could there be a problem with the screen. :rubchin:

Could be maybe?

I am thinking alone the lines of the internal workings of the fan system. the positioning motor stuck or something?

If it drops cold when you put the air-con on then I would guess that the flaps are working? If you have the blower turned on then you will just be getting ambiant air with the climate turned off, which will have had to pass the hot engine compartment. I think what Len was getting at is either turn the air-con on and drive in a comfy enviroment or save money and sweat. hth

They are cold when you turn the climate controls on and ambient when econ is on.

Trouble is? that when "econ" is on and fairly cool air is coming in at face level - really nasty hot air is coming from the tube under the dash - it's not blowing but simmering, but the inside of the car gets really uncomfortable within a short period of time. Not nice on a warm day.

Is that when you have the lower vents set to blow the ambiant air? If not it may just be the little bit of ambiant air that leaks through in anycase without the chilling effect of 'wind speed' I know what I mean :)

Sounds like your flap motors are sticking or out of alignment. I also think you have a problem with your a/c. On my 2001 RS the difference between auto and econ was less than 2 mpg and made no difference to power. On the Rollers with the A/C on the car made 185 BHP. On my current diesel the climate has been in auto mode for 2 years, and my average has been 50mpg.

Driving with A/C on should use less fuel than driving with the windows open.

Not though about it like that.

I might have a problem with the air-con then. I loose massive amount of the engines power when pulling away.

On a really hot day a while ago - I picked up these odd-bods in Portsmouth. I had the air-con on - I had given up with the windows because I was melting. The bloke sat in the front must have been 30-35 stone. His mother and sister must have been equally 25 stone a piece. and his girlfriend was easily 30 stone.

Combined with my lean muscle weight of 14 stone = that nearly 130 stone in weight and was a terrible squeeze. The car was left with about 2 or 3 bhp out of it's 180bhp! It had the best lowering kit money can't buy as well.

got to laugh about it I suppose:rofl:

I'm lost

Switching the climate on or off makes little difference to power or mpg. Sounds like you have an engine problem
