First year with my Octavia

Featured Replies

13 months really but who's counting? :)

Here is a review of my first uneventful 13 months:

Took delivery of my Stone Grey June 2006 Octavia Elegance 1.9TDi PD on 22nd July 2007. 14,500 miles on the clock. Absolutely standard with no extras. Supplied by DM Keith in Bradford.

In the 13 months I have done 13,350 miles, used 1186 litres of diesel at an average of 51 mpg (or 53.9mpg if you believe the computer!)

Running costs:

1186 litres of diesel - £1320

1 set of wipers - £33

1 litre of Oil - £15

Road tax - £120

1 variable service - £185 (DM Keith Bradford)

Tyres - none replaced. Had brand new Hankook Ventus on the front which are now down to 4mm tread. Had original Dunlops on the back now also down to 4mm tread. Spare is unused original Dunlop.

What has gone wrong? Very little!

Rear washer failed - to be fixed under warranty (forgot to do it at the service!)

Lumpy running under acceleration around 2000rpm - fixed under warranty with a software update

Windscreen starting to delaminate (approx 5mm white band along whole of bottom edge) - to be replaced under warranty - new screen on order, expect to be fitted in next week or so.

Issues with dealer (DM Keith Bradford) - other than 1 niggle I have been pretty happy with them.

The niggle? Problem with the service indicator - was serviced before I took delivery at 14,500 miles but 3,000 miles later the service indicator came on. They had forgotten to reset it. They reset it but it now appears they used the trip reset button method not VAG-COM so it got switched to fixed servicing. This only showed yesterday after I got it serviced and the distance to next service showed as 9400 miles. They will reset it to variable when they do the windscreen and rear washer next week. Probably resulted in me getting it serviced 3-4000 miles earlier than necessary :(

Sounds good :)

But variable servicing is the work of Satan, so count yourself lucky!

Hi,

Did the software update sort out your lumpy running as mine is doing the same at about 2000 rpm.Thinking of telling my dealer about it if yours is ok.

Hi,

Seems to have sorted it - only done 80 or so miles since the update and so far so good. Acceleration through 2000rpm is much smoother now and not had any of the really bad stutter that I used to get occasionally on a gentle uphill acceleration.

Need a few more miles before I am certain though - will keep you posted.

Info I got from DM Keith in Bradford was that it only affects the 1.9TDi built around 2006. Service manager knew exactly what I was talking about - claims he had one that did exactly the same and the software update sorted his out.

Ahh great to know and thanks again.Mine is a 2006 so i will investigate this too.

Good Luck

Is this the same 'stutter' which afflicted the Fabia Vrs 'BLT' engine?
