One of my former colleagues has a 306 which he uses veggie oil (an R reg 1.9TD)

He also has a Smart Coupe with an engine remap

steer clear of ex-taxi's, having a high mileage doesn't necessarily mean they are well maintained, the major taxi leasing agents/owners only get rid of them if they are knackered

No they don,t.If you knew how much we have to pay per year to keep them on the road and 2 MOT,s a year too.We al so have to produce service documents to our local council licensing department for them to inspect when it comes to car license renewal time every year.

I read the Car Mechanics ex taxi thing. Looks like a good buy.

If you know what to look for you can get a good high miler ex taxi without the problems.

Although like any car buy with caution to avoid lemons

Mr P has had a 1999 (T reg) 306 1.9Dturbo estate since new. It is the Meridian spec and yes it does has the rain sensor wipers.

I loved this car the day we picked it up. The turbo made it feel very quick even though it's only 90bhp and it was very comfortable to drive (the seats are shed loads more comfy than my vrs). This car has been all over Europe and has quite a few miles on the clock but it keeps on going. One thing I have noticed over the years is how darn heavy it feels to drive now. The acceleration is slugish, the aircon has packed up but it's certainly a work horse. No major problems have ever been encountered with it, so I can't give you any more negatives apart from the local dealer mechanics being complete numpties. For this reason alone we wouldn't entertain another pug.

Were the XUs the ones where you could alter the spring tension in the wastegate actuator to increase maximum boost?

Maybe ;)

You could also turn up fuelling to the smoke point and then back if off a turn to increase fuelling and power.

£500 for a remap vs a couple of spanner turns and a spring ;)

Yes, but i you see some of the **** that is kept running in other areas of the country you wouldn't always take the risk.
