xenon downgrade dilemma

Featured Replies

:confused:My vrs headlight tabs had broken, making the light units loose. I rang skoda, gave them my VIN, then bought two new headlights. When I compared them to the ones in the car they were different. My car has xenons. Now, I've tried gluing the tabs back on, but to no avail. What do i do - remove the xenons and fit the standard lamps (is this a straight swap, Ive seen some pipes from the offside lamp run into a silver box mounted behind the slam panel, not sure what its for) or do I bite the bullet, go back and buy xenons.

PS, its a 53 plate with no washers on the bumper.

Using the money tree in the back garden to pay for it all.

1. That'll be the supply from the ballast (silver box) to the lamp.

2. Bizzare

Are your existing lamps projectors?

Excuse my lack of knowledge - im new to the vrs model, what are projectors? Would they have what looks like a glass ball in the center of the lamp?

Thats them!

Halogens 23746.attach

OEM Xenons 23747.attach

You may be able to buy a repair kit to attach new mountings to your existing lamps. I know that VW do them for Boras and Golf MkIVs with OEM xenons.

It sounds as though someone has retrofitted xenon lamps to your car if it doesn't have headlamp washers as this is a legal requirement in the UK. Does your car have a headlamp height adjustment control inside the car?

Factory xenons should have automatic height adjustment.

Yeah, it has the glass balls in the center of the lamp. Figured just to fit the "original" units that skoda supplied.

Did the intercooler clean as well since the lamps were out.

Doing the crankcase mod some other time....

Can the xenons be refurbed??

Check and see if the repair tabs are available form Skoda, if not the lamps are probably around £300 each.

PS, its a 53 plate with no washers on the bumper.

If your car has factory fit xenons then is should have an auto levelling system and washers in the bumper.

how much did skoda quote you for the new xenon units?

They didnt give me any prices for the xenons, as they ordered the new lights using the VIN.

The normal lights were just under £200 a pair
