Xenons - worth the cost?

Featured Replies

Good point, but is it because xenons fill the beam range 100% whereas normal bulbs tail off the more you get closer to their limit?

Yes; Yes; and triple Yes.

I had Xenons on a 2000 Omega for a few years that I thought were good. I then had a Fabia for 2 years and had to resort to uprated Halogen bulbs. Now with my Octavia, Xenons was the first item I ticked on the options list and they are worth every penny; they are sooo much better than the xenons on my Omega.

I like the sharp cutoff; although it took a couple of dealer visits to get them lined up correctly (not too high or low). The one downside is that the OE main beams look yellow in comparison so these need to be upgrade. I have PIAA Extreme white plus fitted that are excellent (used them in Fabia) but have just bought a set of Philips Extreme to upgrade the lights on my wife's Roomster.

My old Octy II had standard headlights, and my new one has xenons. There is no comparison. The xenons are worth every penny!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought that the headlights could only project to a certain maximum distance by law, so I couldnt see how with Xenons you can see further - only clearer.

Correct, but the Xenons also are much better in the "side spill", which is the real weak spot (pardon the pun) of halogens. Once you've driven past a few road signs with Xenons, you will know the difference. :)

I will not buy a car without them again :)

Hi.

Bought the kit from Awesome GTI, its a "Virtual Daylight" 8000K kit. Looks proper menacing at night :D

I'll post some pics up tomorrow.

Somebody pointed this kit out to me a little while ago.

Now I know the legality "grey area" so to speak - strictly speaking after-sales Xenons aren't legal, but I've not heard of anyone with them failing an MOT yet.

Anyway, I love the look of this kit from the pictures I've seen.

However I also quite like the work VAG did on the design of my vRS and I'd be scared to start "tinkering" to fit something like this in case it all went very wrong.

How easy was this kit to actually fit?

Does it come with good instructions/directions?

Or would I be better (if this kit did interest me) looking for someone with a little more skill?
