Easiest place to get a 12V feed!!!!

Featured Replies

:) Howdy All

I’ve just purchased a small active sub for the furby and was wondering were the best place to take the 12v feed from. The sub will most likely live under the drivers seat (KSC-WA62RC) or if it wont fit I’ll put it in the boot. I wasn’t looking for anything that would break windows or fill small animal when I’m driving, I just wanted a cleaner bass sound from the HU and Alpines that I’ve got.

I’ve read on hear all sort of ways such as connecting through to the battery, taking something from the fuse panel or cigarette lighter socket. I was wondering if I could just pull it from the live that I use for the head unit or will it need to be separate?

The question I have is where is the easiest spot to get a 12v supply from without having to remove glove boxes etc…..

Cheers peeps!

As it's a Fabia, try the fuse box. Open the drivers door and it's at the end of the dash, just pull the cover off. The fuse diagram is in the Hand book.......Hope that helps

I'd say from the battery as it'll need to be fused and far thicker than the stereo feed.

Have you got a standard stereo? As I dont think there is a Aux out point unless you have a aftermarket H.U

I have a kenwood wc8531 and there are more conections in the back of that than you can shake a stick at.

I was thinking of getting the correct type of cable and just splicing onto my live feed. I know there may be something in the fuse I can use and certainly the battery feed but I was looking for the LAZYBOY method.....

:D

I would make the effort and get 12v off the battery itself. :) Will involve some routing of cable, but will be worth it.

yep get it from the battery, if you remove the passenger side cubby hole/glove box and go behind the carpet there is a gromet with some sort of cable running throught it, all you have to do is drill it open abit more add a bit bigger gromet and run it throught there to the battery sorted! then remember to keep the power and rca cables seperate so you get no interference i did the 12v power down the left of the car with the remote lead, and did the rca down the right side, it pushes along the trim fine ;)

hope it helps, pm if u want to know anything else

Theres one thing I hate is doing jobs like that, remember that big stooooopid daft hairy Elephant from Seseame Street....thats me when it comes to car installs.

Sweet Baby Jesus its all a bit drastic drilling and taking glove compartments out!!!!! I suppose it would be better as at least I will have all the cables required for in the future but I have a nice glowing 12v lighter next to me that never gets used!!!!!

Cheers anyway, I may put something out if anyone wants to do it for the appropriate beer tokens or get a car spark out. The unit arrives tommorrow and I really wanted to give it a blast to see what the sounds are like through a half descent setup.

Laters and i'll let you know how I get on guys

I did mine on my octavia, no previous installing done before.

Remove glove box, find gromet, Pierce gromet, feed through wire, DONE!

You will get a amp fitting kit hopefully with the amp with the correct gauge wires.

You dont need to drill (well i didnt with 4awg cable in my fab anyway)

im not sure my cable was thick enough, i couldnt fit it through the existing hole, suppose it was easyer just to get a fatter gromet and abit more hole really

Apologies for size of gif as I just formatted desktop and havent finished loading apps.

Anywhoooo, the active speaker arrived today and it only came with stubby little connections. I've been looking at amp wiring kits however given that my HU hardly takes anything what do you thing about a SPLICE from the HU 12V.

The speaker will be going under my seat even if its only temp for now I just want to hear the thing..Plus got visitors and I only goy a couple of hours to spare...

My stereo throws out 50 wats and the amb is one of those made for 2 seaters and limeted space. I only want nice base so I got a small 100W active that fits under a seat. They are mostly pit in 2 seater cars and never in the boot and it fits bicely under the seats so you can guess the size of the thing.

I now have to explain to the wife why I want bass goinf to my ***

This should be fun after wellying my 1.5 litre bottle of JD :D

If i dont get some honest to goodness soba advice I will be going for the splice.....just for a test and then nooking the day off work and going for a full battery, glove blox off jobby.

Laters peeps and someone say its OK for a temp from the HU so I can blame you when eveything goes up in smoke... Im fused to the hilt with the HU and stubby little connectors what you get with the active amp KSC-WA62RC.

Laters peeps and I just sheeeeiiiitttte theese :pants: knowing I could smoke my car!!!!

You hu dosnt give out 50w, it gives out 50w max (want it gives before it blows up)

In reality it gives out 14w per channel at most

I have one plug in my office/room but have managed to get 8 extn sockets running all with the coorect fuces through extns etc...... Aggghhhhhh I dont understand electricity in cars Help!!!!
