Noise on CD

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just had a Nexus Sat Nav installed in my Octy II VRs and now I get a constant buzz from the speakers when playing CDs in the autochanger.

It's not particularly noticeable but probably enough to get annoying after a while.

Is this normal for this unit (so something I just have to live with), or should I return it to the dealer to get it checked?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like something's not been earthed correctly at first guess???

Yep... although the connector is the same, the location of the earth pin for the CD changer was changed. Sounds like you need to have the earth pin in the connector pulled out and move elsewhere. My local dealer was aware of the need to change this, so maybe you'll have some luck with yours? - otherwise it's not that hard to do yourself.

Have a look at VRStu's site here (bottom of page): Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide

Spot the difference between the top two images. The square pins in the top-right of each diagram. The position of the pin marked "CD" with a ground symbol above it is changed, in order to make room for a 2nd ground connection for the AUX-IN socket in newer vehicles. I'm aware that these diagrams are for the older MFD2 satnav model, but I wouldn't mind betting it hasn't changed. Do you have an AUX socket in your arm-rest? If so, check that it still works!

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I'm having a few plumbing problems with my new bathroom at the moment so haven't really got the time to look into it myself. I'll contact the dealer tomorrow and mention this earthing issue, see if I get anywhere.

One other thing I've noticed is that the volume doesn't automatically reduce when I select reverse now, so I can barely hear the parking sensors. My old standard head unit did this, so surely £1800 worth of new kit should do?
