Octy Vrs - Wrong Oil Spec

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Just recently had my car serviced by my local VAG specialist. The car is an Octavia Vrs MkI 2003 running on variable servicing. When I got home I noticed that the guy had put 0W30 long life oil in. I just checked with Opie Oils and the correct oil meeting VW504.00 spec should be 5W30 grade.

Can anyone please confirm if I'm right and suggest perhaps what the consequences of using this different grade of oil are? Perhaps I need to take it back and get them to put the right grade in!!

Any suggestions and comments appreciated.

I think that should be ok tbh mate.

I'm sure someone who knows more than me can confirm this for you.

What brand was the oil? I only ask because AIUI, 0W30 will be find also...

Not sure of the brand of oil I'm afraid. I did read some threads from the oilman (opie oils) and noticed that VW503.01 spec is a 0W30 grade (that's the spec that was replaced by VW504.00). I'm starting to think that since 0W30 was previousLY ok for for the Octy VRS that it should probably still be ok.

Anyone agree, disagree??

Ask him if the oil is a VW503.1 as you can get 5w30 and 0w30 that do and don't comply with the VW standards.

:iagree: - I'd have no intrinsic issues with a 0W rating, because that will actually pump up faster when the engine's cold (I've seen engines where the pressure light has gone out whilst they're still cranking on 0W oils), but you need a VW503.01 or better for variable.

Thanks for the comments. The guy I take it to always uses VAG parts and so I'm sure what he's just put a VW503.01 oil instead of the newer VW504.0 so spec. Next oil change I'll make sure he uses the newer spec though.

I'd ask the question as if he hasn't you could potentially kiss your cam goodbye.

The correct LongLife oil for the Octavia vRS on variable service intervals is one meeting spec VW 503 00 - not 503 01 which is specified for certain Audis - or you can use the later spec VW 504 00.

I know it's no help buddy, but I always supply my own oil, just for piece of mind. Always use Synta Gold 5W40 as well, changed every 6k. Don't believe in long interval servicing for the sake of £70ish.

My Bad I'm a derv person so was probably getting the 506.1 and adding the .1 on the end.
