Spare wheel

Featured Replies

I find it weird that the car uses a full size tyre on a space saver mod wheel i.e. 50 mph max. The tyre garage, bridgestone truck driver and RACaman all find it strange. Is it a lighter steel wheel?

Surely it is a full size wheel and someone kindly informed me on a previous thread that the 50 mph limit stamped on the tyre is merely to comply with EU & H & S rules. The tyre should be the same as those road tyres but a warning is placed thereon as often spares are not fully inflated and may be unused for years thus there intrinsic safety may be compromised when used after a puncture.

Errr right o...lol

Thats the point of regular servicing, spare tyre pressure is checked.

Been done to death on another thread and no hard and fast rule seems to make sense. They don't put the warning on all spare wheels so who knows.

Actually the other reason that was mentioned was that on the Fabia vRS, a directional tyre might be fitted, which when used 'on the wrong side' would be safe up to that speed and no higher :)
