Steering Wheel Judder

Featured Replies

Can this be caused by rear brakes and pads being worn on an Octy vRS mk1? I know it’s a stupid question but if not I'm a tad worried.

I'm experiencing the steering wheel shaking from side to side under semi heavy to heavy braking. When I bought the car the front pads didn't look touched (there is about 150mm on them at least), the discs look good too.

The rear pads are worn with about 50-60mm of material left on them, the pads look a bit rough but it still stops ;) Looking through the service history reports etc at the last service there was a warning on it saying the rears were scorched?

....I’d like to get rid of the steering wheel shake although it’s not a massive deal and is perfectly safe it is more of an annoyance than anything else. Thing is surly can the rears be causing it?

Hi

Could be warped discs or crud behind the discs if they were fitted recently

The fronts correct?

I had this a while back, slowly got worse over time, turned out to be a knacked wishbone bush, replaced with new ones and no judder!

Thanks gmaster - I presume its easy enough to do? Can it be inspected easily enough?

i have a similar problem, it seems that the traction control arms need to be changed

apparently there could be many reasons

Could be out of balanced wheels

Nope, had this done not long ago so i can rule that one out. It tends to become more noticeable on long drives, although that could just be me getting bored and decided to floor it more often.

Change the front pads and discs.......

Do you need any specific release tools or can it be done with standard gear?

Straight forward enough with basic tools :)

i had similar problem although mine would shake an acceleration as well, turned out to be wishbone bushes causing the car to toe in and toe out on acceleration and braking. i would check them first as it doesn.t cost anything to so if there torn or perished.

I'd check the wishbone bushes first before spending money on brake pads/disc's you may not need.

Is it easy to check these? How?
