Fabia vRS brake upgrade

Featured Replies

I've done a search and can see that everyone that want's to upgrade the brakes on the vrs go for the 312mm upgrade however I don't think that's really worth doing on SWMBO's car.

The standard brakes work reasonably well however after 17k they feel very unresponsive and make a grinding noise when used and feel warped. They have plenty of Pad left and don't get abused which is why I don't think the 312mm upgrade is required.

How many people have just upgraded their disc's and pads and what is your experience of them?

The only upgraded disc's & pads I've tried are EBC turbo disc's with greenstuff pads on a rover and wouldn't buy them again and I've run Tarox Sport Japan discs with Tarox fast road pads on SWMBO's Saxo and loved them to bits.

EBC stuff isnt worth a w@nk mate, sorry to tell you this.

Contact Awsome GTi, and ask what they have, and then get a bleed (just incase you hace cruddy oil or air).

That will make a difference.

For the price of some uprated discs and pads by the likes of EBC you could get 312mm calipers and carriers with OEM mintex discs and pads theyll still out perform an uprated 288mm set up IMHO

I will be asking Awesome but seeing as it's the weekend and they are closed I thought I would ask to see what people have tried.

I guess by going for the 312mm upgrade they would still look OEM and not obvious that they have been upgraded however we don't need extra performance out of the brakes, we just want them to last a little longer than 17k before they feel like they do now.

Mintex 1144's ftw if they still do them :)

Cack, I've just ordered EBC stuff...should I return it when it arrives? And learn a lesson: check stuff on here first before believing the advertising?

If you've ordered the EBC Green stuff don't sign for it, tell the courier they have the wrong house. I can't vouch for the EBC Red Stuff as I've never tried them nor have I tried the Green Stuff on the fabia but I used them on my rover 214 and could dry out the pads in a couple of weeks and that was doing motorway milage so they weren't getting used that much.

Fudge... :( What exactly do you mean by 'dry-out'? Anything else unsatisfactory with them?

I should explain, I have EBC Greenstuff pads all round (yet to be delivered), EBC standard rear discs (yet to be delivered), and turbogroove front discs, which have already arrived. Tempted to send the lot back now and go mad, get some 312mm's  even tho it's not even a VRS...

To be fair you said the original discs were warped, so you must have given them some abuse! The 312's are the brakes they should have fitted as standard frankly.

They certainly feel it although they may not be. I rarely drive the car as it's SWMBO's and her idea of giving it some beans is reving as high as 2,500rpm, she isn't a speed demon and doesn't drive quick at all.

You will get a grinding noise. The vRS does it from the rear discs due to the hard metal particles in the pads, and it's normal. If they feel bad have you had a brake fluid change?

As for the EBC's, I ran the green stuff pads for years on their 'Turbo Grooved' discs, and had no bother with them at all.

It's had a 2nd service which included a brake fluid change.

After looking around it would appear that to get a decent set of disc's and pads there's not much difference in price between them or buying a 312mm kit.

Thanks Guys.

I have recently fitted the 312 upgrade with oem discs and pads and i think they are a million miles better then the original setup and better brakes is always nice to have even if it just for peace of mind, i upgraded mine cause i warpped the front brakes and wieghing up the prices worked out better to buy the upgrade glad i did.

she might not drive fast, but its suprising how hard/late sme slow drivers brake lol. 312`s all the way. tried them on a mates car, amazing, as said, should have been std on the vrs tbh

Trust me she doesn't brake late and like me was taught to brake by changing down gears before pressing the foot brake.

I know how much better the 312's are, I've gone that route on my octi.
