Gearbox rattle

Featured Replies

I managed to get hold of the mechanic who does work for me, (at long last ) he has been busy keeping race saloons up and running at knockhill,

I told him about the rattle I was getting on idle so he had a quick look and listen and confirmed the rattle was coming from the gearbox, and not the belt end, but he had to go, what could it be as it only happens at idle, and when I put the clutch peddle in about half way it disappears.

It does not affect it when driving in any way,and gear changes are smooth, but is just annoying when idling.

could it just be the clutch release bearing or something more serious:confused:

its now done 70K and when I bought it late July it had 64K but the rattle was there when I bought it but did not notice until I had gone 300 miles from the dealer not a Skoda one though

More than likely clutch related or DMF.

Agreed.

id have said DMF

When the guy turns the dmf on its side thats the sound Im getting

If it's under warranty get it in quick.

If it's just out and always been serviced at a dealer see if skoda will contribute.

If not go to an indy dealer and I'd consider an SMF conversion, if available (which I think it is for the PD105) and discuss the up and down sides of one with the garage

I have been trying around for a SMF conversion and there isn,t one so far for the PD105.I will keep hunting though.Mines juddering at the moment but will get it looked at on next service in 2500 miles time.

Mine will be 3 on the 13 of this month and I have already informed Skoda do you think there could be a recall on the way or help with a goodwill payment

Doubt there would be a recall at all.

Get it in before the 13th and see what the dealer and SUK say about it warranty wise.

Speak to Meadens as they showed me the part number when I was having a problem with mine. It wasn't available for the 2.0 but they said that skoda mentioned one for the PD105 for taxi use.

Get it into a garage before the 13th and then they will note it under warranty. If it is a warranty item then it will be fixed under that even if they fit it at a later date as long as they have diagnosed it before that date.

It's worth doing as IIRC it's in the £700-1k region to have one fitted on book price.

I am kind of hoping that the previous owned did that, as I got it at 64 K I did call customer services and explained what was happening and they said let a dealer have a look and that they (MAY) be able to sort something out its done 70K now

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel, I contacted the last place that serviced it and found out it had a new clutch at 44K, and new discs and pads all round and drive shaft boots, in march 07 so the car has only done 20K on this clutch so I am hoping that if there is anything wrong with mine by the sound of it there is it should be replaced for free
