Tow electrics

Featured Replies

We have just bought a new Fabia 2 80 bhp diesel and the dealer has supplied and fitted for us a tow bar and the electric connections at a cost of £400. However when travelling the fridge on our little caravan ( Eriba Puck ) does not work and on examination I see that the necessary two pins in the 13 pin plug have not been wired up. The dealer says that the standard connection does not require these two pins to be connected and says that if I want them connected I have to pay more. Can anybody who has had a tow hitch fitted advise me on their experiences?

I suspect that you've fallen foul of the 12N (normal) and 12S (supplementary) UK standards. If your electrical socket is a normal UK one, then it must be 12N- which does not have the permanent 12V feed for a fridge etc. You need 12S for that.

Quite often cars come with a euro connector and a 12N adaptor these days.
