Door Lock rotates 360 degrees without doing anything

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Once again I have another issue with my 1999 Octavia TDI SLX.

Over the last few days the drivers side door lock has been getting stiffer and stiffer to the point where I would unlock the car and it would stick slightly opening all my windows.

Unfortunately I have just been out to lunch while at work and as I tried to lock the door it was extremely stiff!!

So I thought "take the key out and try again" but it wouldnt give up my key... So I tried to turn it a little harder and there was a clunk noise and the barrel now rotates and rotates and does nothing.

Has this happened to anyone else??

If so, could someone give any advice on how I may be able to sort this out... Is it a case of removing the barrel and putting in a new one or can I use a repair kit like I have heard mentioned in other posts?

Or will I need to remove the door card and see if something has gone snap?

If I use the internal button to lock all the doors that works... but just the key doesnt.

Thanks for everones help with all my other problems... If anyone can help me out with this one I would be much appreciative!!

Regards

Muppo2000

I think it sounds like the internal linkage is now unmoored from the barrel, so it's a case of removing the door card to see what's broken.

But what's this "key lock" of which you speak? I always use the plip!

Thanks Ken... I think I may have to the door car off and have a look!

Unfortunately I dont have a Key Fob to open the door remotely as I dont think Remote C/L was standard on my age Octavia??

I can use the button on the inside of drivers door to lock and unlock all the doors but when I put the key in the barrel the whole lot just spins and spins

I found a link from a guy that sounds like he had the same thing wrong as me but the piccys shown have 2 torques to unscrew whereas I only have one?? http://briskoda.net/octavia-i/drivers-side-door-lock-problem/110243/

May have to have a play around to see what's wrong!!

Cheers!!

Those photos are of a vRS, so a post-facelift car with remote locking.

ahhhh... So I'm guessing the barrel and cylinder repair kits the other guys used on theirs wouldnt work on my one??

I will take the door card off when it stops raining and have a look at whats going on

Cheers!!

You should be able to remove the lock barrel without removing the door card. The screw rotates a metal cage, so that when the lock barrel is free to come out the slots in the cage are aligned with the ribs on the lock barrel. Rotate it too far and you will need to remove the door card to retreive the fallen bits and reassemble. You should be lucky in so much that your lock will be of the old design which is serviceable by the repair kits.

Thanks for the response Fordfan. I shall certainly give that a go first... Its got to be easier than removing the door card.

But knowing me "butter fingers" I will end up having to take it apart anyway:orb_rolli.

Is removing the door card an easy process on one of these? I changed the barrel on my old Corolla and that meant removing the door card but it was just a case of unclip 4 clips and Job done.

Cheers all

No idea; I just know the guy and car, so knew the "post facelift model", which explained the difference in the door edge.

Have an Octavia MKIi and foolishly ordered a repair kit.... Is there any way of opening the cast aluminium casing/housing for repair? Really annoying you can't access the inside, can clearly see the bit that needs to be replaced.post-110974-0-01767100-1385912849_thumb.jpg
