Help me decide.....

Featured Replies

Having come from a pug 106 S2 Rallye and Saxo VTS, I currently own a Celica GT4 which is proving costly to run now I commute a lot for work.

I'm looking at a Furby Vrs as the next new motor. Seems a good option with performance and economy when needed but will a drop in power and a loss of 4wd be an issue in the real world?? has anyone here 'traded down' this way and regretted it??????

How does the black paint hold up, my old Saxo showed every dink and scratched just by looking at it

Yellow and red will probably fade over time and silver doesn't look that special imo.

Has anyone done a WRC replica paint scheme like the octavias a little while back??

I'm ready to sell the GT4 and do the deal but I want to still get that buzz when I go out for a drive..... help me decide chaps!

Traded down from a Scooby turbo to a Fabia 100bhp TDI through a change in personal circumstances. Not as much raw power, or downright grip, but Fabia is very chuckable and still really fun, especially after replacing the springs and dampers with Eibachs. Bizarrely, I find myself driving at the same speeds I was driving the Scooby at

Torque is similar to the Scooby, plus I get all the toys like heated seats, climate control, etc, and see 50mpg even on hard runs and running costs are minimal :)

For 400 quid, you can tweak the vRS up to 180-190bhp and lots of torque which is probably similar power at the wheels to a standard Scooby :D

Oh and no problems with the black - is a pain to keep clean if you do lots of miles, but when it is clean, it looks superb :D

Went from 4x4 Octavia of about 220Bhp to a 250 or so FWD Octavia and not regretted doing so.

Okay so wet roundabouts and junctions I do. But all the other times I do not, I personally feel much more involved in the driving process despite having given away some traction, but I don't think I have given away too much grip and it feels better when driven on A / Track Roads.

The furbys even standard do very well on open road drives, unless your lead car is a nutter and really pushing they do very well...a little to well perhaps ;)

Only once above 60 do the big Octys ratios begin to pull a gap out.

I imagine the torque might be an issue early on, if like I was, your used to hoofing it everywhere because you could.

Pester a dealer for a drive, should swing you either way I guess.

Personally, I would chop octy for pd130/50 lump and remap anyday now, if it were not for GBrown robbing me blind at source.

You could say I traded down (although I don't see it that way), previous car was a Seat Leon Cupra which is 180 bhp 1.8 20v Turbo same as the Octy.

Have had the Fabia now for 4 weeks and have loved every minute, and have not looked back once, driving a TDI take a bit of getting used to and I've found that you don't need to thrash the car to get the best out of it.

The standard car is never going to be as fast as your GT4, but I'm sure you will be quite surprised, and a quick trip to Jabba or AMD will go a long way to closing the gap.

There are guys on here that have swapped from Scoobies, Mini Cooper S and V6 Golfs and I'm pretty sure they will tell you the same.

Best thing to do is get a Test Drive and make you own mind up, but I'm sure that you won't be disappointed. :D

Too late need to learn to type faster.

Just changed from a Civic Type R. VRS Furby is very easy to drive fast, economical and cheap to insure( relatively after Type R).

You would not be disappointed as build quality appears to be excellent.

Deffo have a test drive, it will put a smile on your face.

Having great fun overtaking in sixth in a Skoda( the look on other peoples faces is great)

Not quite the same but went from a 290 bhp Scoob to an Octy 4x4, Best decision I ever made, Jap cars arent that good & I agree they cost a small fortune to run

I've kind of gone from VTS to VRS, have to say the VRS is in a different league!! Like Chris said pull is not far short of Scooby waters and I'm driving quicker than I was in the saxo (of course on a private race track)

Black will always do that, it's one of those things in life. But I have to say with 5.5K on the clock in 2 months mine seems fine albeit the few key marks from the usual t**ts!

Haven't seen the WRC thing been done by anyone yet, maybe you could be the first! :P

If you need a car that will get you from A2B cheaply and quickly you cannot do better than the VRS, TBH it's the best car I have owned EVER!

I can't say how a drop in performance would feel, given that my Octy vRS is the quickest car I have owned... However, the knowledge that it is totally screwed together, along with numerous awards for reliability and customer satisfaction (which swayed me away from Seat and the Leon Cupra) is superb for me...

I had two Italian cars :rofl::rofl: before this, and the fact that you can hear the engine and turbo rather than bits falling off is great IMHO.

Servicing is cheap by all accounts, and they're easy to tune too... Insurance on the diesels looks excellent, plus it'll be two fingers up to G Brown! :D

Its encouraging to read all of these comments on the Fabia vRS from those who have traded in cars such as Scooby's, VR6's, VTS's etc and been really happy with it.

I must admit, I came from a humble little Micra 1.4 Sport, and although that was a nippy car, the Fabia vRS in stock form when its run in has blown my mind, and its astonishing how fast you can drive without even trying.

I kept up with a Volvo (unsure on the model) across roads that he clearly knew very well and I didnt, especially in the twisties, and he only really pulled ahead on the straights because I wasnt really trying to keep up. My mate sat in the passenger seat was seriously wondering when we were going to have to pull him out of a ditch, such was his determination to get away, and yet I was being so flippant about it :D

Aye Up ;)

Just joined up, and am pretty impressed!

Nice to hear!

I'm currently driving round in a 190bhp VR6, but will be collecting an 04 plate fabia vRS, in about 2 weeks time!! :D

This thread has been very re-assuring, so thanks! :)

The fabia is not a standard car! It's been Revo'd, lowered on eibachs, 18" Alloys (these will be going), fully colour coded, and a progressie shot of nitrous! 235 BPH - 360 ft/ib :D

Will I regret it?? I hope not!! :D

Catch y'all later,

Cheers fellas, have to say that I'm now pretty happy with what you guys have said.

All I've got to do now is sort the GT4 out as after being hit on the motorway, a minor knock on the wing has become a total loss insurance claim and the car has been valued at
