Fitted that cheap air induction

Featured Replies

I fitted that cheap air induction kit i bought of ebay for £40...it only took me an hour to fit,if anybody buys one you have to relocate 1 of the horns to fit the filter on the bottum of the pipe properly..i put horn on the chassis on the bottom of the battery tray..there is a hole already drilled and the 10mm thread on the back of the horn fits through the hole, use the old nut and crimp washer to fix the horn on...it never came with a filter for the smog breather pipe which is fitted to the old air box but i tracked a breather filter down from my local motor shop £6,the small filter in the kit with the long blue pipe fits onto a pre drilled hole in the ally tubeing(i think this must be from another car maybe so they have adapted it with the small filter and pipe)i was thinking of cutting the thin blue pipe down as small as i can because i think its to long.do you think it will make any difference?..the kit seems to be working fine seems alot louder and responsive when i boot it but quite when i dont and i think i can hear a dump valve not too sure but its makeing a whooshing sound in between gear changes :)

I had this kit too, it fitted perfectly, whats a smog breather pipe?

Mine had a blue pipe which connected to the ally tubing at one end and the other end of the blue pipe went the little connector which connected to the secondary air pump.

You don't need the little filter.

I had one of these but have removed it due to doubts about the filter quality. I love the sound, the DV is particularly louder with one of these kits.

I may go back to a CAI one day just for the noise as power gains hmmm I'm not convinced personally. If I do get another it would be a carbonio as I would trust the filter more :o

Martin - A smog breather pipe will be part of the crankcase ventilation system.

Lex - Unless the pipe is a deliberately funny size, you should be able to get an universal K&N or Pipercross filter to fit that pipe.

Ahh Right but this kit doesnt need a crankcase breather.

hmmm.i dont no if this kit needs a fiter on the crankcase breather but when you fit the kit you have to take the breather pipe out of the standard air box and then you are left with an open end on the pipe with no filter on it..before i bought the breather filter i started the car from cold and there was air being sucked in from the breather pipe, dont no if theres something wrong with my car but i thought i better put a filter on it.. ive also seen a leon on a picture that had a filter on that breather

i might have fitted it wrong were is the secondary air pump??

the instructions they email your when you buy it are not for this intake its for a carbon one that looks a bit like this one doesnt even tell you wot to do with the blue pipe so i tried to work it out myself :(

Yours sounds ok but in the kit you have pictured in the first post there is a little alloy bit which attaches to one end of the blue pipe, the other end of the blue pipe goes to the main metal pipe. Then the little alloy bit snaps into the end of the plastic breather pipe which is already on the car.

Looks a bit like mine

Thats how i had mine. Hope you have fun anyway, its a sweet sound but i would replace the filter as i found quite a bit of dust just past the MAF housing and into the TIP (turbo intake pipe).

Yep not far from you.

Ecu evolution did my remap and i bought it through ebay. I sent them my ecu and they sent back remapped cost me £99, an excellent map with bags of power.

chipmycar is run by a guy called Mike, hes a good lad who i know and who frequented this forum when he had a vrs. I suppose you know he's based in Hull so its handy for you if you have any problems.

I have just fitted this kit today but now my traction control light is on all the time and I can not turn it off is there a sensor/plug at this side of the car I could of damaged?

Possible that you have broke your MAF, did you drop it whilst fitting the kit ???

nope, would it be possible for a broken maf to make problems with traction control?

I was thinking MAF as well. They are sensitive things and can be damaged by the slightest knock. You really need your codes reading to help diagnose the problem.

Thanks Guys

I noticed I didnt replace the plug to the maf, I have done now but the light is still on, Will have another look in the morning

I think i am right in saying that it will take a while for the light to go out unless you have vag-com to clear the code.

That looks really nice actually. I'm guessing you just run the ally hose down to where the standard pick-up goes

yeah the ally hose goes down at the side ot the battery and then bends down and the filter sits just under the front cross member..ive noticed that on the front grill of the car there is a small hole cut out..if i make this hole a bit bigger do you think it might act as a ram air and let better air into the engine bay?
