Electric Window problem. Fabia 1

Featured Replies

Tonight there was nasty cracking noise, followed by failure of the OSF electric window to raise or lower. The glass is OK, but is so far down in the window guides that I cannot grip it to shut the window by hand.

Any ideas as to likely cause and best method of repair?

Is it cable operated of rod operated?

Help appreciated as rain is forecast - yes it DOES rain on the Costa del Sol!

Sounds like the motor or window regulator might have jammed or broken.

I would think if the window was too far down the only way to get it back up would be to take the door panel of and free it from the runner. Then you could maybe tape it in place to hold it until you can rectify the problem.

HTH

Must be the time of year... A lot of these occuring lately, mine included.

happend to me too and my dad fixed it, all i know is there is a plastic bit that the window sits on and it broke or craked and i wasnt there when he fixed it so no pics but i can tell u one thing that the fabia's door will need some work to get it open as i did open it and once i got the door card off i had to drill through rivets that held the inner panel that the motor is behind

Mine went a month ago. Just got the regulator replaced. 20 min job for a trained mechanic.

i went to the dealers or as some know them to be the stealers and they quoted me some silly price i cant remember, so i just did what i do best i told my dad, lol and he found that plastic bit i mentioned and fixed it so didnt have to replace whole unit as stealers said i would have to

I'm going through the same problemat the moment (http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/how-remove-window-carrier/121479/). I'm waiting fo rhte replacement carrier to turn up on Monday and then I can fix it as in the mean time I have the window taped up.

Sounds like you have the same symptoms as me and it is as others suggest a small plastic part on one of the runners that has gone. I think that if you pull on the window and press the up button you may be able to get it to close.

DO NOT try to raise with motor. Carrier might not be broken. Sometimes the window comes out of the carrier - it is only clamped in a rubber. This means that the carrier parts come up on the inside of the glass and try to push it vertically - as the window curves inwards it will scratch if not break. Have a look at the VW vortex site ; it has a great picture and text description (describes Golf, but Fabia almost identical). If you follow it carefully getting to see the problem is quick and easy. Once the door lining is off the carriers can be seen through two inspection holes. If one is broken you'll see; note that all four are all different. If you need to order check they understand which one. If not broken, you need to push window up, hold with tape, then align the 10mm bolts with the inspection holes, undo and lower the window into the carriers. It must be as far back as possible so as to slide up the rear door slot; if a bit out, it will snag and then pull the front part out again

Yip, the same happened to me last month, had to get a new motor!
