New old brakes

Featured Replies

I am thinking of the 312 brake upgrade for my vrs, im on a budget and was thinking if i could get a set from a scrappy on a fairly new car or if they looked in good condition and use the discs and pads also. What do you's think?or shall i just save for new ones?

IMHO the calipers carriers etc wouldn't concern me but i'd definately go for new pads & discs. JMTPW

I'm sure someone was selling a set on Pistonheads in the parts for sale section. Sorry I can't remember any details.

I was thinking of this too. Definately wanna go for a 312mm upgrade, but probably not until the other side of Xmas. It's getting them off the old car tho!

I know they fitted these to the Audi TT, but what others cars should us scrapyard scavengers be looking for?

You don't say where you are based. I have a set of caliper carriers and used disc's & pads for sale http://briskoda.net/items-sale/car-parts-clear-out/122910/

You would then need to source a set of Calipers

up too 100 quid is reasonable, then hammorite gree paint, then new disks and pads,i would recomend ferrodo ds 2500's and oem disks,do a full brake fluid change to racedot 4.1 and your done:thumbup:

At the last service I think the pads still had approx 50% (estimated) life left according to Awesome GTI.

I got my calipers and carriers from the TTshop in bedfore for £150 and oem audi discs and pads for £170 :)

Has anyone tried upgrading the brake fluid and getting decent pads and discs on standard 288. Instead of upgrading to 312

My freind Has done just that put on vented drilled and groved disc and a set of green stuff pads with racing brake fluid and braided brake lines and his could stop on a penny i think the 288s are ample with these upgraded parts

I'll be fitting 256mm (mine's not a VRS) Nitrac 12 groove front discs, 8 groove rear discs, Mintex 1144 pads all round, braided hoses and brake fluid change hopefully within the next 2 and a half weeks. I'll let you know how I get on if you're interested.

Yeah Would Appreceate that mate Cheers

Its that age old Question does size really matter or is it the quality lol!!!

if you think the 288 setup is good you should go out in a car with 312 setup i was amazed how much better they actually are honest they are miles ahead of the standard brakes :)
