Servicing 75k 1.4mpi

Featured Replies

SWMBO's 8 year old Fabia that used to be mine is having its MOT next month so we decided to take it in for a proper service at a family friends garage (not worth paying stealer prices). When i ran it for 44k it never had a 'service' but had 10k oil and filter changes, all the usual things checked, new spark plugs and fuel and air filter at one point. This used to on the ramp on a sturday morning when my brother worked at Kia and it got a stamp, didnt have FSH when i bought it so didnt seem important.

But as no real service regime was followed im just wondering what should be done on the car at a proper service at this mileage, besides the usual fluid and filter changes, and general healthcheck. I know it has a timing chain so theres no cambelt issue. Is there anything specific to the engine and age i should be requesting to be done?

The MPi's a pretty robust engine despite all its other foibles, so apart from maybe some new spark plugs, a new air filter, a new pollen filter and an oil change, an MoT prep service should cover everything else by checking / replacing all the wearing parts.

Grand, well ive got quite a list of things its going to get, it deserves a good once over, tell my gf it will do her for another 3 years till shes fully qualified if its looked after (which she doesnt). Wish i had a drive cos i could do a lot of the work myself i think (as far as replacing filters, plugs and fluids anyway) but he wont charge much for labour and he'll give us parts at cost so we might aswell get the works. Just thought id check if there was anything major, does the timing chain ever need adjusting or anything like that?
