2.0T is dead, long live the 1.8T?

Featured Replies

Just looking at the Skoda website and I noticed the only car to use the petrol 2.0T is the Mk2 octy vRS.

It's not even an option on the new superb, but a 'new' 160bhp 1.8T is.

Has VW dropped the 2.0 and moved back to the 1.8?

Surely that means that we 1.8T Mk1 drivers win!! Ha!

I did notice that the new Superb is available with a 260bhp 3.6 V6 4x4! Awesome, I guess it's the Passat R36 gear.

I get the feeling that a new Octavia is coming soon....... Mk2 looks a bit out of place now.

Don't forget the 2.0T is also in the Golf GTi (200bhp) and the newest Seat Leon Cupras (240bhp) and Audi TT's and S3's (280bhp)

It's a completely different unit to the one on the Mk1 vRS - it just happens to have the same capacity. I made the same mistaken assumption about a year ago! :D

Ahh OK, so maybe they will just save the 2.0T for the 'sport' VAG models.

Just seems kinda silly from a manufacturing point of view to be making a 1.8T and 2.0T at the same time. VAG must be loaded!

Surely engines should be getting smaller and more economical, and cars should be getting lighter. Making the 2.0T after making the 1.8T seemed a bit counter-productive to me. A 160bhp 1.6T would have been the logical step to me...... oh well.

If it's anything like the engines in the old Megane, the 1.6 (which I had) and the 1.4 had the same block but a different crankshaft, which gave a different stroke length and therefore different capacity...

The new 2.0T is slightly redesigned to overcome some of the shortfalls in the current engine. The 1.8T is also a stratified injection engine similar to the 2.0T but has pretty good emmisions levels.

Any idea what VED tax level that drops it to?????
