Clutch Slipping when turbo kicks in...

Featured Replies

Following on from my previous thread:

http://briskoda.net/items-wanted/octavia-vrs-1-8t-engine/120405/

Had a new engine from a Seat Leon, same engine code etc.

Had a whole new clutch fitted, the car pulls away fine etc.

Its just when the revs get to approx 2,000 revs and the turbo kicks in the revs go up but the car doesnt go anywhere fast.

If i keep the same pressure on the acclerator the revs rise and the car doesnt go much faster whereas if i ease of and reapply it the car feels around 50% ok.

As ive said the clutch doesnt slip when pulling away, its fine in 1st and 2nd gear when booting it, but in 3rd,4th and 5th, if i put my foot down the clutch slips :-(.

Can anyone give me any suggestions/solutions as to what could be the problem.

The clutch was purchased brand new from a VAG specialist and is a genuine part...

Thanks Adam

The clutch.

Really. It may be a new part, but that doesn't mean that it's not contaminated with oil, or defective, or that the pressure spring isn't weak.

agree with ken sounds like dodgy clutch which has some oil or something happened to it.

When you say some oil. what exactly do you mean?

The mechanic who fitted it all reckons it could be because the engine is from a seat leon and might need a different clutch .

Its not been right since day one(the clutch that is) i thought it might need bedding in (i have no knowledge on new clutches etc).

Oil, lubricating, an unspecified quantity of. ;)

Swapping clutches for one that physically fits from another model is an acknowledged way of getting a cheap uprated clutch in some applications. The same could apply the other way around, but if the mechanic wasn't sure it was right, why didn't he check first?

Ah right ok thanks!

From what he said the engine from the donor car didnt come with a clutch, he changed the clutch plate( i think thats what he said) and slipped. So he ordered a complete clutch( compromises of a few different parts) but it now only slips when the turbo kicks in. It was from a VAG specialist brand new etc and looked exactly like the old one (he compared them before fitting the new one). Same part numbers etc, but now he is wondering because the engine was from a Seat Leon, should it have a clutch for a Seat Leon or should it be ok with the Octy clutch.

I would suggest it was contaminated, either that or just plain faulty. Get the mechanic to get the part swapped out from his supplier and see if that makes any difference....

WHat you need to check to determine whether the clutch is just plain wrong is the engine and gearbox codes; the gearbox code is dead easy, and I think the engine code is part of the engine number. Given those it should be possible to see if the clutch part number is suitable or not.

Completely off topic here.... but is your vRS blue?

Never seen a blue one before, looks lovely in ur pic.

Remapped engine? Did my 4x4s clutch in.
