Getting Excited Now!

Featured Replies

Originally told 10-12 weeks for my new Octy arriving, which took me to the middle of November.

Just found out today that it's been built this week, so 3-4 weeks from now!

I don't suppose anyone has any idea on whether it'll be 3 or 4 weeks for arrival if its been built this week over there? Is there a guide?

Depends on all sorts of things. ISTR being told up to 6 weeks from time of construction for my last two (new) cars. Although I order both of them around June time for September delivery (new plate), so they might not have been treated with particularly much urgency...

If you get half as much pleasure from your new car ,as I did mine, you will have a ball ;)

Can't remember exactly, but mine took about 3-4 weeks in July/August, which was when they were having problems!!

One of the most frustrating times you can have

When I ordered mine I was told 12 weeks for delivery and guess what... it took 12 weeks!

It depends a lot on what extras you choose as dealers can do a search and may come up with your required specification of car located somewhere in the UK already at another dealers. All they have to do is get it transferred then so it's pretty quick.

My dealer told me specifying a sunroof nearly always means a factory special order. It's 'so unusual' to want a sunroof with climate control and apparently very few of us ever choose one...!? I'd be interested to hear opinions on that one, I don't think I'm that unusual am I?

The weather we've had since I've had mine though (3 months) does make me wonder if I'm ever going to get the chance to use the bloody thing (sunroof not car)!

Well, I just looked it up. Mine was definitely a special order 4x4 plus Maxidot, Multi function Steering wheel, reverse parking sensors and tow bar. Ordered on June 28th and collected on August 20th.

As I said, this was during the time of the turmoil over the storm damaged cars, which was being blamed for delivery delays!!

My experience is unusual, since I did get hit by the hailstorm delays, but I ordered in May, the car was built on the 10th of June, and was expected to be registered by the end of June when the financing deal ran out. I was told I couldn't order any options and still hit that deadline. The dealer can't register it until it is at least in the country.

If it was hit by the hailstorm, then it was still in port on June 22nd - twelve days after the build date. The ship takes a week, and then another week before the dealer gets it. Then he has to do a Pre-Delivery Inspection, and get it valeted. That can take a few days. So from build it is supposed to take three weeks to get to the dealer, but sometimes takes more. 3-5 weeks might be more honest.

Theoretically, the dealer can track when it leaves port, when it arrives in the UK, and when it has been allocated to stock. However I was told that the database is updated erratically, so they have taken delivery of cars that they thought hadn't even reached the UK yet.

Equally, the system can work. All the dates the dealer gave me turned out to be spot on!
