Flashing glow plug light and engine light on = HELP!

Featured Replies

Right tonight my when I switched on my vRS the glow plugs light kept flashing and the engine management light was on constant.

Anybody got an idea whats wrong as i'd rather not get rapes by Skoda for a diagnostics check?

Thanks

If it was just the glow plug light I'd say check your brake lights are all working, but because you've got the engine management light on too I'd just take it into any VAG dealer - the lights don't come on for ****s and giggles, so it's trying to tell you that you shouldn't be using the car.

Yeah ive not used the car.

Just wanted to see if anyone had similar problems before I take it to the stealers.

Someone mentioned to me that the glow plugs might be the wrong ones which aren't the correct temperature and therefore could be causing the fault.

Anybody know about that? I didnt know glowplugs could be different temperatures?

Sounds more like a faulty brake light switch to me.

Run like a mofo, that badboy is about to blow!!!

On another note, when my Glow plug light flashed, it was to do with dodgy brake lights

Sounds more like a faulty brake light switch to me.

Mine did the same and it was the brake light switch cost a few quid from dealers and a 5 min job to fit

Thanks guys I hope this is the case.

Will the brake light switch be located behind the brake pedal?

Its located in front of the brake pedal.

I had the same after slipping the wheels off a wet roundabout and catching the limiter, the flashing eventually stopped and A scan showed that Engine Speed Sensor signal was implausible.

I had the same glow flashing and management light after one heavy heavy rain.

I took it to Skoda, but when the man put the key in, it did not light!!!

And I started it when I was leaving from work, and it was: glow plug light stays on flashing, and management light stays on after the car starts.

But, when Skody man tried to take a look, it was all perfect (just my luck, they looked at me funny)

A scan showed that Engine Speed Sensor signal was implausible, they erased the error, and it was all well from then

Well thought i'd be better safe than sorry as some say brake switch, others say Engine Speed Sensor, so its booked into Skoda on Thursday.

On a side note they quoted me £275 all in for timing and auxillary belts which I thought was pretty good, no?

Well it turned out that there was 2 wires that had come loose from the wiring loom!

First when I took the car into Skoda (Ayr Ingram) the car was driving fine. They said it came up with about 20+ fault codes. Then when they spotted the wire they thought thats the reason. But they fixed that and I got the car back with just the EML on, BUT THE CAR WASNT BOOSTING.

They said they thought it was maybe needing an ECU but when I told them the car drove fine until they mucked about with the wiring then they took it back and looked at it again.

They then tried to say that there was no power getting to the vacuum which controls the boost.

But again I told them it was fine until they messed about with it so they fixed it for free. I dont know how they managed to mess that up but they did. But atleast they realised it was their error and fixed it for me.

The smile when I got my fixed vRS back after driving my girlfriends 1.2ltr Clio! :D
