Holiday antics

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm just home from my hols in Wales, where we managed to cover most of 1000 miles in 10 days. My Fabia estate performed well, achieving 50 mpg on the uncluttered roads. We headed homeward this morning, stopping off at Slimbridge WWT, and again at Burford for a pitstop. We were on the A40 heading towards Oxford when the emission warning lamp came on and the engine started sounding rough. Called Skoda Assistance and the man confirmed a misfire on cylinder 1, but changing the coil didn't cure it and the spark plug looked normal and was dry. He was unable to fix the fault at the roadside and we ended up with my poor little Gizzmo being loaded onto a recovery truck and we were all transported carefully back to Herts, arriving about 3 hours later than we planned.

Not quite the end to the holiday he deserved, but hopefully the fault will be readily rectified under warranty.

:(

Maybe the cake went out of date.

Doesn't sound too serious. If the plug was dry it is probably an injector failure or a blockage. An air lock can also cause similar symptoms, although I would have thought the breakdown guy would normally have checked and solved an airlock.

At least it didn't ruin the holiday! Let us all know what the outcome is. Keep smiling...

I'm reasonably relaxed about the problem as a car developing a serious problem wouldn't have been achieving 50 mpg! No, what got us this morning was turning up at the cattery to collect our two cats and coming home with just one.

Lucy, our 19 year old moggie collapsed wtih kidney failure at the weekend while at the cattery and was rushed to a local vet. She didn't respond to treatment. We said our goodbyes this morning before the vet put her to sleep.

It's been a stressful 24 hours.

Jo, you are right...but so sorry to hear about your cat. Been there...and it hurts!

My bests to you all.

We've been told today that the car has a faulty injector and will be repaired as soon as parts are available.

I must say, the 1.2 L Fabia 1 is a real surprise to drive. It handles remarkably well and its lighter body means it can make reasonable progress. Okay, some aspects of the interior are a bit sparten, but the important things are there, it even has a rev counter. I did get lots of jokes when I turned up in a bright yellow car, but at least no one could say they cannot see me coming!

Splendid news about the fault...and a straight forward one to rectify. Not often an injector fails these days, and normally if they do it is early on in it's life.

I agree...the 1.2 '1' is a super motor, and they go so well. I was amazed just how well, and I much prefered it to the 1.4 four cylinder petrol engine which I found a bit lacking...no offence to hardened 1.4 petrol heads...it's a good motor I know. How the heck do they get that power from the 1.2 eh?

I'm afraid I'm a hardened oil burner...

My car is fixed and I'm picking him up tomorrow morning.

Hooray!

Good news
