see - im not mad...

Featured Replies

this is from a review of the old shape superb...why dont the designers listen and use this for the new superb...

"There's only one problem here, and the only way of avoiding it is to dropping down through the trim levels. The entry-level Classic and the mid-range Comfort both have 205/55 tyres on 16" wheels, but the Elegance uses 17" wheels with 225/45 rubber, and it's just plain wrong.

Skoda's engineers have done an outstanding job on the Superb suspension, which soaks up road imperfections quite brilliantly. This is still the case with the Elegance when you're swooping over crests and into dips, but those low-profile tyres send smaller bumps straight into the cabin. I drove the test car along a typically-surfaced motorway, and it was like caressing the skin of a supermodel who happened to be going through a bad case of acne (or, to use a less poetic but more real-world image, like eating lumpy custard).

Yes, I know the 17s look better, but as I suggested before the Superb is hardly a masterpiece of exterior design, so you don't gain much by tarting it up. Also, Skoda is very keen - and with a lot of justification - to describe it as a luxury car. On both counts, the 16" wheels and the tyres that go with them are the better choice."

im off to order an S model so i get 16" wheels !!!

I don't think you're mad. In fact, I think you're probably right when it comes to the Elegance on 18's. For me, though, I've been used to the ride quality from my vRS, and then previously from a bunch of Evo's and STi Imprezas.

It's all subjective. Given that you're currently driving an A6, I suspect that your benchmark for ride quality is somewhat different from mine.

Personally, I've found that the Superb strikes a reasonable balance between handling and comfort, which suits me fine.

Assuming you can get Skoda to supply an Elegance on 17's, I reckon you will get back some of the comfort and compliance you are looking for.

i want an elegance on 16" wheels. you can get them on the S model so why not on the elegance. i have a dealer looking into this very option right now. otherwise i wait till the options list is open and buy an S model and spec it up !!1 or just buy the elegance and put the wheels in the loft and buy some 16" (expensive option !)

Potentially, lesser models have smaller brakes and hence a better specced model may not fit the wheels from one of the said lesser versions.

unlikely with the same engine choice. a 1.8T S will still go as fast as an elegance with the same engine so i doubt the brakes will be different.

That's what these forums are for! I'm sure you can find more than 1 willing recipient to swap you their 16"-Combo for a brand spanking new set of 18"s...

Besides any dealer worth their salt. Should jump at the chance to take your 18"-Combo in trade for a variety of 16"-Combo's... Without charge! Especially if that sealed the deal!!!

not quiet as simple as that- see my other post titled "the plot thickens". the dealer reckons the suspension setup is different across the three trim levels. I am not convinced and want answers !! i am going to try and email tech support in the czech republic and get some difinitive answers - wish me luck !!
