Another Tyre Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

My front Dunlop SP01's are wearing thin & will need to be replaced within the next couple of thousand clicks - they have been fine & have lasted nearly 30k miles but they were not the quietest & I know there must be better out there so I've narrowed it down to the following two:

Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics

Michelin Primacy HP's

However the question I have is at the moment my current Tyres (original factory fitments) are 225/50/17 - Will I be OK to replace them with 225/45/17?

They are so much cheaper!

Thanks in advance

W.

Your speedo will be reading 3.4% too fast, but other than that I don't think there's much to worry about.

Ok, maybe I won't then!

Just that I really fancy giving the F1's a try but they don't do 225/50's

I'm not that fond of Michelins either but they do seem to last forever even if they are shyte in the wet.

Back to the drawing board again then....

Bridgestone RE050 might be a good option?

Ok thanks, just had another look & they look a better option than the Dunlops again or the michelins - not a bad price.

Are you using these?

I replaced my Dunlops with the Bridgestone RE050. I have been happy with them. I have done more miles than my originals too and even wear compared to the dunlops. btw... mine are 225/45/17 and I am sure that is the standard fit? Mine are now due replacement again soon so have been looking at vredestein's

Vredestiens will be what go on ours when the Dunlops need replacing. I've used them on the Fabia for many miles and they are very good - cheap, good gripp in both wet and dry and quiet as well.

Are you using these?

I've had them on several cars, I really I regret not having put them on this one. Probably will go for the RE050A again in the next few months depending on availability in XL loading.
