Oh dear, glad I fitted new calipers

Featured Replies

Well, my new motor's brakes seem'd a bit "gritty/sticky" in application, so I stripped the units of my old V6 and put them on the new motor (after a bit of colouring with red caliper paint).

Glad I did after looking at the caliper pistons after I stripped them.

Now the problem is considering the state of the front calipers that came off a year 2000 motor, should I be worried about the rest of the braking system ?

They don't look too bad Danny, I have seen far worse :)

Is the rusted portion inside or outside?

Inside, note the dust covers at the other end of the pistons.

Yeah, they aren't good mate. Perhaps the old fluid was really VERY old...

Certainly worth flushing with good clean fluid, and checking the pipes for corrosion etc. Might be worth checking the brake fluid cap is sealing properly too.

My thoughts too. Last record of a fluid change I can find was 2004. It may need a clutch as well so I'm gonna get both done at the same time.

Polish them up and they will look as new, the rusted bit doesnt look corroded from the pictures, you'll be suprised when you clean them
