Best place to put the USB and iPod Leads

Featured Replies

After enquiring with my local audio shop (Sextons, Swansea) about this

http://www.alpine-europe.com/index.php?id=ida-x100

I need to know where's the best and easiest places to put the leads in a vRS. This unit comes with the iPod lead but I'll be adding the USB lead also as I will be using a flash drive.

Also if I wanted to add a CD changer could I use the OEM Skoda one or similar or would I have to buy the Alpine one?

Thanks

Martyn

Edit: Pics of where you put yours would be good and how you did it if possible.

Get a storage drawer from an Elegance model, and cut a hole through the back so you can feed your leads in. Then you can hide your lovely gadgets out of sight but still plugged in.

Awesome thanks. Any idea on prices or maybe a part number?

I've also been told that I may need a signal booster for the aerial. I've googled it but I keep getting links to TV boosters. Any ideas?

It's worth giving SkoSpares an email - I got mine from there for about £20.

Sorry, I can't help with your questions about boosters or changers, but I'm sure somebody will be along who can!

My ipod lead goes into the glovebox. On the right hand side, there a sort of V shaped cutout. With a bit of convincing, I managed to get the lead through there.

My Pod cable also comes through into the glovebox, through the same opening. With my Alpine I don't need to see it, otherwise I might well have followed the drawer idea, seeing as I have one already :)

Another vote for the glovebox. Whip out the glovebox and drill a hole into the section below the flap, theres a moulding mark which works well. Any excess lead can stay out of the way beneath the flap and you can feed what you want of the lead through the finger flap as suggested above. :)

yep glove box, i have a ipod lead and a usb cable running through the v shaped cutout, a little velcro and ipod and 8G flash stuck to roof of glove box nicley out of the way. run an alpine h/u so all controlable through that

Just had a look for this v- shaped cut-out and it's used to hold up the shelf for the secret compartment so I can't get rid of that. How easy is it to push the leads through that, bearing in mind I will have 2 leads. One for iPod and one for the USB.

I used a flat blade screw driver to flex it into the glovebox and pushed the lead through from the other side. Wasn't hard, just a bit fiddly.

My iPod lead comes out to the cubby hole beneath the steering wheel (the one to the left of the air conditioned one)

Just a quick question for you, Imperator.

Noticing that you have pressed German number plates fitted, and that you live in Merseyside, have you been stopped by Merseyside police during their number-plate-blitz recently?

I too have German plates (with a UK number) correctly sized and spaced, but with German font, and I have heard of lots of people being prosecuted for illegal plates recently (according to the local paper.)

Anyway, back to the topic, the lower part of the glove box is ideal for an iPod connector. Scoop out a sponge to rest the iPod in, to avoid it getting scratched on the back by sliding around on corners.

If you have an Alpine head unit it will control the iPod.

v shaped notch is where the a/c pipe connects and the light is, when the glove box is removed, then velco to the roof of the glove box, everything is out of the way and nothing gets scratched, if i get time i will post a pic later.

I've got the same head unit. Very good although a few bugs such as displaying and playing artist's tracks in alphabetical order if they've only done one album. Annoying if you like to listen in the order the artist intended.

Anyway, I ran the leads through a small gap above the centre console so the iPod can sit in the tray just in front of the ash tray. Just need pushing out of the way slightly. And the iPod being on display encourages you to take it with you if you leave the car and not leave it in the glovebox. ;)
