Octavia 4x4 kerbweight?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Could anyone tell me what the octavia 4x4 (1.8t) in saloon and estate model weighs?

Reason i ask is i plan to buy one and drop it off for a turbo upgrade. I'm hoping the extra bhp will outway the extra kg's over a standard octavia.

Thank in advance

Ryan

Unladen weight ready for the road (depending on optional equipment):

4X4 Saloon - 1375-1470kg

4X4 Estate - 1390-1500kg

My UK-spec 1.8T 4X4 Estate weighed exactly 1500kg when checked on a weighbridge.

1.8t 4x4 unladen weight 1375-1470kg

1.8t est 1390-1500kg

1.8t vrs 1325-1375kg

these weights are from the skoda octavia technical manual supplied with the car .

looks like i was beaten to it:rofl:

no need to bother with expensive turbo upgrades, as the 150 brake 4X4 will remap to the same as the 180brake VRS, somewhere around 200-210 for a generic map(the most cost effective upgrade available). the 4 wheel drive system is really good as well. you need to really try hard to get the wheels spinning. just digs in and goes! just do a search on remap to see the results people have been getting(most of them will have Smilies in their sig next to Jabba,APR,etc) cant wait to get mine :D

I second the above.

If I had a £1 for everytime I've heard a passenger say, "You don't need any more power than this." - I'd have £4

- oh and that's from fast car fans - not from my dad and his type!

Having said that - if I had a spare £6k....

well i don't agree with the above :)

i've owned a 4x4 for a a few years in many guises from completely standard, standard brakes suspension but with remap/fmic/cai to those with coil overs and then adding big brakes. a couple years later it gained a medium sized bigger turbo which was great fun for the 5 minutes it lasted but i still wanted more which it is currently getting along with a lot of choce upgrades :D

I have to agree, as someone with very limited income (i.e. SWMBO doesn't know :o) all I could aford was a Jabba remap & Polybush the suspension, as I felt the cambelt & water pump took preference .

I am still smiling after 2 years, recently gave serious thought to selling but could not find anything that gave the same grin factor for the money.

plus it will embarrass most chav / boy racer types on the open road.(they don't know what it is:rolleyes: :D:D:D)

PS the biggest difference after the remap was changing the tyres to Toyo Proxies.:thumbup:

gotta disagree, I've driven the brother's 4x4 both remapped and after it came back from it's bodge job at Star - it was nice remapped but it was noticably nicer with the bigger turbo (while it lasted) and should be better still once it's put back together again :)

You're absolutely right of course.

It is a brilliant car for so many reasons. With a remap it is definitely 'competitive'...

but there's hardly a day that goes by without fantasizing about a big turbo......

My point was that for the money you need to shell out for the big turbo upgrade there are other more cost effective ways to improve performance. I have to agree with F0Z1 from a limited budget (see comment re: SWMBO) on mine I had to replace the broken bits first (Split pipes and a knackered DV, so bought silicone replacements and a 007) followed by rear disks and pads(standard). a full service, Gas conversion and an Aero wiper for the rear(well the original one was broken). Now that the car runs OK I want to remap and do the 312mm front brakes, at that point I could stop if I wanted to, really I could, I mean it, I'm not addicted or anything, reaches for phone to call upgraders anonymous. On a serious note though, the brakes on the 4x4 are not the most inspiring, If you go the Big Turbo route this is one upgrade you should definately consider

before hand...

not read or heard much about STAR but on my quest to find a mapper close to Bridgend, reliable, honest, helpful, professional, dare I say "cheap" (see comment re:SWMBO) I realise that there are a lot of good mappers and maps out there but there are more jumping on the bandwagon as it were that are not so good. Research and recomendations from other members are all I have to go on.. but anyone with a good map will agree that its the best value upgrade. Did your brother get custom remap after the Turbo?

they fitted the turbo (etc?) and did the mapping. people seem to like them, but my impression is that the whole experience was just generally shoddy (and that's being generous)

Based on what others have reported I am going to go the postal remap route. can't really afford to take it and get it rollered as most of the places only seem to do FWD not 4WD

so unplug the haldex controller and run it FWD, any decent VAG mapper should know about this and how to do it as its very easy. could even just pull the fuse to the haldex controller if you wanted.

btw Karl i am said brother :D

i went from standard(power wise) to a jabba map/fmic/cai and it was quite nice so 150 upto about 226 jabbhp, then added a blueflame turbo exhaust with sports cat and only ever got 200-210 on various RR days. then i decided to take the plung and got an ATP eliminator GT2x supplied/"fitted"/mapped by Star performance and that lasted all of about 6 months on the car but it didn't work properly from day 1(Jim at star told me it was the head that needed rebuilding even though it had never been an issue before but it turned out to a shoddy turbo) and over the last year or so i have been collecting many many parts and its currently getting a new engine/gt28/6 speed box along with a few other mods so will update when its done :)

Can't wait Bengie - especially to see how the 6 speed is....

Brake-wise I changed to the Ferodo DS pads first - very good (they quickly ate my disks) - then later to 312s - bit better. The brakes still need some good tyre tread to work with 'though....

Karl - rear aero wiper? You've got the estate?

no the hatch, I looked for an estate and at the time the only one I could find was in Belfast and I didnt fancy the trip.. found a nice clean reasonably well maintained one just south of Bristol and have been grinning ever since. I like the idea of the 6 speed box(which one), is it true that its a straight swap? no changing of ratios or use of adapter plates etc?

yeah it bolts right on, i have an S3 box but you need lots of other parts, basically everything that touches the gearbox.

Karl - rear aero wiper? I thought they only fitted the estate? Is it just a blade or arm too?

ebay special I got one for the Octi hatch and one for the wifes passat estate. they are Aero wiper "retrofit" so they fit the standard wiper arm. works really nice on the Octi but still tweaking on the passat as needs to swipe both directions to clear screen.

eBay Seller: aceparts uk: -bul -bee aero octavia, Cars, Parts Vehicles items on eBay.co.uk lists both the retro fit and original

so before the turbo went to turbo heaven did you roller it? be interested to see figures :D

263bhp/275lbft according to Star and on JKM's rollers it made 280lbft but the air fuel ratio went all to **** as it was burning oil so only made 240bhp. be nice to see what it makes once back on the road :)

so how many gearboxes have you broken then?

well the first one broke through bad luck as the car was standard, the second one i destroyed so now its getting a 6 speed box as its far stronger :)

but whilst breaking this box i managed to twist a drive shaft :D

were the breakages as a result of launching or flooring it in higher gear?
