The Fabia is so much better I cant express in words how much Skoda is a better car brand then Hyandai, For a start Skodas last years and are bullet proof put a 5 year old skoda Fabia next to a similar 5 year old accent and the fabia will feel so much better and less knackered.

I fully agree with you.Wife had an Atos and everytime I step into it you feel as if you're climbing into a 80's banger after a sunday race.Rattles everywhere,bits of plastic cracking and falling off,worst ride but on the plus side car has got a 150,000 kms and only refused to start once due to a failed battery and is quite economical when compared to the Felly and the Fabia's she's currently driving which is expected as Atos is built from rice paper and has no electrical comodities such as p/steering,air con or

ABS which makes cars heavier.It is so light that when driving at speeds over a 110km/h (top speed is limited at a 130) the car starts to feels as it's goiung to lift off.I absolutely hate it.Also as I once saw on top gear the reason for buying Korean was because they were cheap which seems pointless nowadays as prices have risen up to levels of much better equipped and safer european cars.Mind you if there's a Korean car I'd buy at the moment it would be a Kia Proceed (the three door version).It looks stunning.

You are hardly making a fair comparison - Hyundai have improved no end over the last couple of years and you're talking about their much older models.

Oh , and the Kia Proceed is basically the same car as the i30 so it seems odd to recommend one and criticise the other

Nuff said. Massivey underated car imo. Great interior quality. More rattles in the MK5 Golf I compared it to!

And I'll certainly be looking at the i20 as a possible replacement for my Fiesta 1.6 TDCi (they have a 126bhp 1.6 TD engine/6 speed box planned for the flagship model).

I also think, at least from the photos, the forthcoming Hyundai i20 looks great. It will be produced in India and reporters say that big improvements regarding quality have been made to lift this out of the budget sector and compete head on with the class leaders. There will be a good choice of engines with a 1.6 126bhp six speed oil burner being the flagship. At least they will produce an fully automatic petrol version, a 1.4, instead of the jerky semi autos most appear to be offering these days. A 5 year unlimited mileage warranty to boot - Hyundai's have always faired pretty well reliability wise.

Look forward to seeing it in the flesh, could be a tempting proposition?

Personally, I think it looks bland and a step down market from the Fabia.I'd also hate to think about the depreciation - Hyundais are notoriously bad for holding their value.:thumbdwn:

Agree with skorob2007, but the big issue for me is no diesels. I just don't want to have to drive a cr*ppy low-torque petrol engined car when I could have a decent bit of diesel grunt AND get 20% better fuel consumption and lower emissions for the same performance. Same goes for the Honda Jazz which otherwise looks like a good car too.

Errr, there will be a good choice of diesel engines available as mentioned above in a couple of posts. The highest output one will offer 126bhp and around 190lb/ft torque :eek: In something that weights a little less than a fabia at a guess.

I'd seriously consider the car as already mentioned.

the older fabia is rock bottom prices now, cheaper than some of the 1998 hyundai coupe's

my dad has owned 2 Hyundai's , a accent coupe and now a amica.they always starts first time etc, ok the build isn't good but i'm sure the new i20 will be (like the i30 is).

i could buy a 2 year old i20 for around £5000 and it will still have a 3 year warranty same as a 10 grand brand new fabia.

i bet the big boys are S%"**ing themselves.

I know a family who have only bought Hyundais. They currently have an Accent and a Coupe.

I don't think the big boys are really crapping themselves. They might smart a little but no-one really crapped at the Koreans huge 7 year warranties

People will buy what they want and spend extra if they have to.

According to What Car, the Mk 1 Fabia hatch range, dependent on model, has a retained value after 3 years from 38% to 45%. The Hyundai Getz, which the i20 will replace, has retained values from 38% to 40% - so they are not a million miles apart. Then of course, one has 3 years or 60k mechanical warranty, the other, 5 years unlimited mileage mechanical warranty.

One assumes the new i20 will be a far better car than the outgoing Getz.

Case proved then Bassa. I do not think I120 car looks much different from the multitude of other makes around. At least the Fab looks too narrow and a bit geeky. That said the warranty does shade it. My wife also had a Getz and it was a great little car. As for retained values in the current climate you can deduct 10% from the figures quoted.

There are no really 'bad' cars anymore, it is coming more and more down to personal choice.

However, looking at the design, although prettier than the fabia, I would say that the fabia will beat it handsomely on interior space and boot space.

Bet it won't have 'keep fit' rear windows though!

the new range of Hyundai's does look better than the outgoing stuff. i just took a 3 year old getz in and its rubbish! noisy, cheap, and bits were practically falling off it already! compare it to the 3 year old fabia they px'd it for and they are worlds apart.

but in another 3 years time i think it will be a much closer thing. they are moving forward with the times.

I noticed that they are a hire car favourite in spain.

I see on 5th gear last night they put the Fabia3 up against the i20 on spec. The presenter said it was a draw but then gave it to the i20, as it was £400 less. Correct me if I am wrong but would the fabia be worth more in 3 years time.

Proberbly yes, the Hyundai looks quiet good from the outside. The interior plastics of Hyundais compared to that of the Fabia I have yet to see, I do however expect the Hyundais interior to be far worse. The same could be said of the handling as well. The saving in the costs has to come from somewhere, especially if the equipment levels are simillar.

I have not noticed but if the i20 has the five year warrantee then it will shade it. My wife had the Getz and it was a super car all round.with a finish equal to the competition. In the foreseeable future a saving of £400 will be enough and there is a good maketing campaign to back this up. Overall expecting to be shot down, in the 11 months I have had my F3 I have seen few other Fabias around apart from on the local dealers forecourt. This may reflect flat car sales and there seems to be evidence on the threads or lack of?

Just to add a little more I have just looked through the Alfa Mita brochure and it to is well priced and will also impact on sales of smaller cars as it seems AR have really done their homework.
