New Fabia RS and Sports versions - in France at least

Featured Replies

By some weirdness I found a couple of new brochures on the Skoda France site which I can't find again, although I do have the PDFs! Headlines - Fabia RS version (same engines, though) and Sport vesion of the Combi (estate). I'll try and post more about this later when I've got a second.

and Sport vesion of the Combi (estate). I'll try and post more about this later when I've got a second.

Sounds intresting

For those that care, see the following pdf file http://www.skoda.fr/documentation/download.php?mod=38&cat=39 A Fabia RS Line (?), appears its limited to 300 as well.

Don't know if this is what the OP found, but its the only reference to the RS I can find on skoda.fr

No not the Official RS,the one of the file is just a normal sport with a bodykit just for the french market. The proper Rs will have the 1.4 engine (TSI or whatever it's called, the one which has got a turbo and supercharger as used in the Golf GT) and will probably be launched at the Geneve motor show next year.In paris Skoda will have the facelifted Octavia and new Superb as new models.

Yes, it's certainly not a "VRS" or whatever they end up calling it when/if it comes out, but it does appear to be more than just the Sport. It's called the RS Line and, as I said before, does have the standard engine lineup with the exception of the 60bhp and 70bhp models.

Differences from UK Sport appear to be:

"DualRate" brakes - higher braking power in emergencies

Cruise Control

Central armrest

No curtain airbags

Climatronic

Electric windows all round

ViaMichelin preparation for Handheld GPS

16" Atria alloys

Chrome exhaust and door thresholds

Prices (in Euros and converted to Sterling at today's rate) are:

1.4 TDI 80 16 590 € - £13,126

1.9 TDI 105 17 590 € - £13,918

1.4 16V 85 ch 15 090 € - £11,940

1.6 16V 105 ch 16 090 € - £12,730

1.6 16V 105 ch Tiptronic 17 090 € - £13,522

What I personally find more interesting is the availability of a Sport version of the Estate. Features are pretty much as for the 3, plus:

Directional front headlamps

Cornering lights

Rear disc brakes

Remote radio controller

Maybe a few other things where I am not sure about the translation - but basically a very good spec. A particularly interesting comment is that the "Sport suspension (-15mm)" is described as being obligatory with 15" and 16" wheels from September 2008 for the saloon and from February 2009 for the estate. It doesn't say whether you are required to pay the extra 210 euros for this option after those dates, though.

Prices for the estate version are:

1.4TDi - 17 390 € - £13,760

1.9TDi - 18 390 € - £14,550

1.4 80ch - 15 890 € - £12,572

1.6 105ch - 16 890 € - £13,364

1.6 tip - 17 890 € - £14,155

The date of the brochure is 1st July 2008

The Greeks are badging a 1.6 petrol as a vrs, I've posted links/pics before

http://briskoda.net/general-car-chat/greek-skodas/119310/#post1387457

I forgot about till now but today I was browsing the greek skoda site. It turns out the Greek Fabia Sport can have a 1.6 115hp engine and its badged as a vrs!

Skoda Fabia SportEdition

...

So what I think I'm getting at is I'm surprised by the difference in engines, I thought the UK would get better ones and very surprised by the vrs badge on the fabia sport

I'm sure that Skoda UK would be more sensible than to corrupt the VRS brand in such a way, although I have to say that they don't in my view exhibit much sense in their choice of model configurations and availability in other respects at present!
