Fabia misting up

Featured Replies

This problem has been plagueing my fabia for ages now but I've never bothered doing anything about it but finally I have now decided to take action.

My Fabia seems to mist up as soon as the weather turns slightly cold, what could be causing this? When I look at other parked cars they don't seem to have mist on the windows and screens.

are your rear carpets wet ?

if so do a search its a comon fault and causes the windows to steam up

I had this last winter and it was due to wet carpets as the door seals failed.

Also check the pollen filter, they sometimes cause a nasty oudor and misty windows if they are damp.

Yeah I would go with the back carpets wet due to the back doors seals failing, thats how I discovered mine, misted up windows.

Yes, check rear carpets for dampness.. The only other thing I have found that affects it if I have been using the air-con a lot. Air con is quite a good way of clearing it (assuming you have it).

I'm on my second Fabia, and both have suffered from this, car going back to dealers when I can arrange it to get the rear doors sealed under warranty.

Cheers.

Hi, I had this on my last Fabia.. good door seals and no leaky washer pipe (another cause of rear foot well dampness.. both my Fabias had this).. infact my vRS had it when I bought it, but having seen it before i knew i could sort it.. anyways...

Quick fix!

Run the AC on re-circulate with the heater knob on something like 22'C (or whatever is comfortable).... Sounds like a waste of energy but the Fabia is apparently clever engouth to only use what it needs of each (heater/ac)..

Air Con, is by design.. also a de-humidifier! I could sit with the fans on full at any temp blowing on the screen and it'd make nearly no diff.. but, if I did as above it'd clear almost instantly as the Air Con dried the air!

This is (I think) why you'll notice cars with climate control computers don;t steam up all that much.. I can't think of a time EVER that my Mums Saab 9000 (full Cliamte Control) has steamed up!

Also, a spottless windscreen (inside) will help allot!

My rear doors are sealed and it still does it. Think its down to water inside the door.

might sound obvious but a common mistake is the recirculate button on the air con,is it on or stuck, if so your recirculating moisture.

If your carpets get wet - from a leaky seal or anything(!) - once you have done all the standard stuff like using a hair dryer to sort it, you can sprinkle some baking powder on any damp patches and leave them over night. The baking powder absorbs the moisture and crystalises... then just get a good brush to loosen the crystals from your carpet and hoover it off. The baking powder also absorbs odours so it should get rid of any damp smells too.

in the vrs the recirc is disabled when you switch off the ignition

yea theres water inside somewhere

the only time my does it is if i give the carpets and seats a good clean, maybe try on a nice day or even a dry day if your area is safe enough and ur not using the car to leave the doors open let it air out
