Just had an oil change done. It's the first one and have gone from variable to fixed. Car done 7000 miles.

Just checked the oil when I've arrived home from the dealer. About a 3 mile drive.

The oil is jet black. I would have expected it to be the usual nice new oil colour. Is this peculiar to diesel cars ?

OK done a bit of google ing. Looks like this is pretty normal with diesel engines.

Yeah, I have been musing on this one too, my wife has a petrol car and the oil stayed a nice pale colour for ages after an oil change, but my 2.0 diesel oil turned black stright after returning from the service on 12000 so I guess it must be normal, I also had an oil change 5000 miles later to check the theory out and it was the same black colour again.

Perfectly normal.
