Engine management light

Featured Replies

Well, here it is, my first problem...

I had the car remapped last week and Nick (R-Tech Performance Remaps) told me the ECU was asking for 1 BAR and was getting under that.

He told me to take it easy (no caning it) and check my pipes or it could be DV was tired.

Coming back from Wokingham on Saturday night I was just cruising along a country lane at about 40-ish (dark, raining, kids in the car) and the light came on.

Pulled over, turned ignition off for 30-ish seconds and the lilght still comes on, even after being left all night.

Car runs fine, still pulls hard so my question is...

Would a tired DV throw a light up or should I be looking at something else?

Sound like it's leaking air somewhere, possibly a breather. Have a look under the manifold, you will need too remove some bits to get under there properly. You may be able to hear a hissing sound as well.

It could be anything, my first port of call would be to get the fault codes read. This will give you a good idea of the problem.

Yep, gonna have to find a Skoda dealer local to me, thought it would be a bit longer before I had to do that lol.

A VW dealer should be able to read the fault code though?

I tried mine in an Audi dealers the other week and it wasn't having any of it, altough my mate said later there may have been another way to get it work. But we didn't bother trying as I had my laptop with me.

Well thanks to a surprise call from Nick @ R-Tech with some good advice (thanks again mate, quality after-sales care) I have ordered a VAG-COM cable so fingers crossed it isn't gonna be expensive lol

Are you running a standard DV ?

Yep, and I know that has to be changed but the EML came on before I bought one (only been a few days on remap).

I want to make sure the fault is down to DV and nothing else before buying one.

I would remove the map and see if the car returns back to normal.

I have no noticeable loss of power, she still pulls really hard.

I'm gonna see what VAG-COM has to say before doing something as drastic as that lol

Hello M8!

3rd party VAGCOM lead will set you back £15 which you can use with the Rosstech shareware software, or you can buy the ful lversion for around £70.

It sounds like the EML has popped up due to an emissions fault, or a fuel trim , A part throttle doing the low speeds you where doing with the boost at a lower rate than requested you engine will be running rich. 1st port of call is VAGcom to read the codes and send me a screen shot once you have read them.

i had the same problem when i brought mine and it was a breather pipe at the front of the engine under the cover where the dipstick is.

Just had the same thing fixed on mine, but different fault code. Drives better as well now

Bertee, you might want to edit out your chassis number from your vagcom readout above. You don't want some evil git cloning your car.....

Regarding your fault code, I had this one driving home from picking my car up last year! Turned out it was due to 2 perished hoses. Cam cover breather hose, and vac hose under the centre of the inlet manifold. Very common fault, and an easy fix.

Something else I noticed since this morning is, when the secondary air pump kicks in first thing the car sounded like my old cavvy

Sounded the same this evening leaving work, gonna take a look at the weekend but it is starting to wind me up lol

:D

I kept getting this one logged and it was an air leak - my aftermarket TIP had come off at the turbo end!

You should definitely check all your boost pipes for leaks.
