Bad wind noise from rear doors or tailgate

Featured Replies

This has been annoying me for a while now (maily because SWMBO & kids complain about it!).

Did a search and could find tales of creaks and knocks, but not wind noise in the Octy 2.

Basically its terrible above 60 mph - really noticeable from the driver seat, and actually feels like there's a "draught" according to passengers. Far worse than my Mondeo.

I've tried silicone lube on all the seals but to no avail. They look fine. Any ideas? Is it normal or should I get it looked at? It's a 2008 model.

I have a list of other niggles which need attending to such as:

1) Driver window "knocks" once on closing. Alway at same point.

2) A really annoying creak from the rear NS seat at all speeds - I'm sure it's seat related and have lifted it up and put leather treatment on it.

3) Stange issue with cold starting after 10 days in airport car park. Started first time, but when turning the wheel to reverse out of space the headlights dimmed and a relay went nuts! This happened until I was driving along.

Any tips gratefully received.

I had the wind noise problem. Both rear quarter windows needed to be resealed. Fixed under warranty.

You are right. It gets really bad above 60 ............

I would imagine the dim lights/relay incident was purely down to a pi$$ed off battery. As the PAS is purely electric it will draw quite heavy current from the battery. Allow the engine to run for a minute or two if left to stand for several days before whacking the steering wheel over to a full lock.

thanks guys, most helpful.

Flynntech, did the reseal do the job for you?

Even if you're not under warranty anymore, but it's always been serviced at a Skoda place they should take care of it FOC as there's a TSB on that.

We cured one a while back. Basically we got an old number plate and cut it to the height of the rear window where it meets the fixed glass in the door. The rear window was wound fully down and the adapted number plate was the slotted into the window channel and then given a couple of blows from a hammer, resulting in the channel getting moved a couple of mm closer to the fixed glass.

thanks guys, got to get the dealer to fix this ASAP. It's driving me crazy.

I hope they don't resort to old number plates and hammers

It did yes.

Had this with my new 55 Octy II . After trying resealed windows etc it turned out to be a poorly fitted rear drivers side door. Adjusting the striker plate caused better sealing.

Get some one to pull on the door handle while driving along to see if noise lessens. Easy proof of problem then.

But they couldn't run that fast  Maybe they could ride a skateboard while they did it?:rofl::rofl:
