Alpine CDA-9853R Gone Pop! Repairers in Roth/Sheff area?

Featured Replies

The headunit has not been used for a while, i plugged the unit in and believed i must have had a wire connected wrong.

Was a loud pop and the fuse went (thought it was the fuse at first) the fuse was replaced and all fired up fine and dandy.

Now i realised the heatsink was becoming rapidly hot, and not even giving any output from the speakers.

So i unplugged the unit and tried changing the constant and the switched live around, to no avail it went with a loud pop and blew the fuse again. A new fuse and the same situation of the unit becoming increasingly hot and no audio output.

Now ive been and bought a Pioneer Headunit, as i was in need of a HU.

I've took the heatsink off and what i believe maybe a output transistor of some sort. Has left residue on the casing and blown a nice crack along the flat face.

Now the question is, has it blown something within the headunit that in turn has popped the suspected output transistor? Or does anyone reckon the dud transitor can be replaced (easily accessible) by a competent electrician?

If so does anyone in the Rotherham/Sheffield know of any good places?

I've heard of one in Wath, but will be interested of other people's experiences in this field.

The unit cost me alot of money and has alot of features...more than what a £70 Pioneer headunit has.

The Gf has recently passed her test and her car doesn't have a CD Player, so my idea was if it could be repaired for a reasonable price.

Then i would have it repaired and give it her.

Any input is more than welcome, many thanks in advance!
