I could make a reasonable contribution on the machines I have access to at work, but I've long battled with getting the client to receive and submit data though our proxy server. As this is something I don't have control of, as it sits in a central location, there's not a lot I can do :(

Shame really....

I had a similar issue until I found an alternative proxy server ;) we weren't supposed to know about. :D

I have a few options as well, including one option quite similar to yours ;)

But still no dice; might have another play with it when I get 5, it's been a good while since I last tried. But I can't see anything changing with our end of things...

it sounds like you are running the same WU over and over, I had this once with the normal client and to clear it takes a bit of work from the command prompt.

From the stanford site you need to find the qfix application for the gui client, and also know the executable name and install folder of the fah software.

Assuming the folder is c:\folding and the executable is fah.exe, (substitute as neccessary)

copy qfix.exe to the fah install folder

start > run >cmd

cd c:\folding

qfix

fah -send all

exit

restart the client and see what happens, if it picks up the same wu again try deleting queue.dat from the install folder along with the work directory.

Seems that this doesn't work with the GPU client... :( Could also be because I'm using the graphical one as well.

Looking at the log file I was correct in my earlier statement that it is uploading what it had processed of the failed WU's.

in that case try deleting the queue.dat file and also the work folder and restart, it should redownload and recreate everything.

Tried that as well and still no luck.

I did happen to be using the machine when that last WU failed and both screens flickered right at the point of failure. :rubchin:

I can't even run anything at work... firstly because we use a citrix system so no actual processing power available on the desktop and second i work for the council and would get into trouble! lol

Install the latest drivers the other day.. and I managed to complete one or 1 full WU but then it started randomly failing again. :(

Might just have to stick the cpu client on instead.

We have a blade server on evaluation. Now if only I could get that onto the net.

A nice set of dual-cpu quad core blades folding would be nice and remove the need for heating this winter :D

Unfortunately this is all beta software and it does fall over on a regular basis. I lost almost 30,000 points last week due to system crashes. I can see why people just don't bother contributing as the software is so unstable. I'm going for 4 Million points (top 250 in overall points contributed) and then I think I'll stop.

[Edit]Tuesday OK for you MannyO?[/Edit]:)

I've been using Windows for over 10 years now so know all about unstable software... :D

Your past me now Walter.

Thats one of the reasons I gave up Folding and moved over to Boinc software run projects instead.

Your past me now Walter.

I think it happened around 3am on Tuesday morning. The latest 6.23 NVidia client has lifted my ppd by about 10%, so that helped quite a bit. I'm undecided whether to buy another 280GTX and try to hit 4M points by 31/12/08 or to just let it drift along at about 30Kppd. I should catch BPM in a little over 2 weeks, but I was chasing the No. 2 spot for so long that I think getting the No. 1 spot will be a huge anticlimax.

I might put a feeler in the for sale thread for FoldMonster1 (Q9450 in a DFI X48 with 3 8800GTXs hitting 18,000ppd) and see what interest there is in a pre-configured folding system, seeing as how everyone seems to have so much trouble getting the GPU client running.

The gap will now increase faster, because I am now down 1 folding rig.

I needed to save power due to the increasing costs of electricity, so have Virtualised my main 2003 AD domain controller at home. Its now running as a VM on a low power WHS box and folding in a VM kills WHS performance so its had to stop.

I'm shutting mine down too. I'll maybe do the odd bit here and there, but it does seem crazy running all this extra kit for points when Stanford can't even tell us if anything good is coming from it at the moment.

Surely you've got to take that no. 1 spot first???

Congrats Walter.

I should really spool up my GPU now. ;)
