6cd changer stuck

Featured Replies

Well its stuck and wont eject.

music player will now not even register cd player and toggles between radio and tape.

Any thoughts. Has it bit the dust?

car is only 3 years old - out of warrantee last week (are these faults timed!!)

Probably no power to the changer if the eject isn't working and the HU can't recognise it. Is it making any noises when you press the eject button? See if you can get it out of the housing in the boot and check the cables to the bottom of it.

2 torx screws in either side of the carpeted guard surrounding the changer. Bit awkward to get a screwdriver on, but you can do it with a flexi extension on a bit driver. Or with torx keys if you have any.

You don't need to remove the screws, you can just slacken them off if you like, and slide the changer and guard up off the bracket together.

You can't disconnect the wires at the changer unit itself though, you have to follow the cable back behind the carpet behind the wheel arch, and disconnect it at it's plug off the loom. It's easier than it sounds, 10min job.

I guess water could have gotten into the connector, or maybe the connector has come lose. Mine was wrapped tight with foam padding to protect it. But the changer in these cars is still terrible, so I removed the changer and bracket completely, and relegated it to the spare parts shelf in the shed!

Just when your favourite song was coming on the stupid thing always went mental. RIP the CD changer, long live USB and iPod control!

Take it out and clean it up though, it's worth a try....
